The Shipping assistant's primary responsibility is to safely prepare materials for transportation, and to ensure an uninterrupted supply of goods and materials to our customers.
Job Responsibilities
* Assist in reading and interpreting shipping documentation with attention paid to material allocations, packaging, labeling, and transportation requirements.
* Pull materials from the warehouse using established best practices and utilizing material handling equipment such as forklifts and powered carts.
* Prepare packages for various modes of transportation (air, ground, vessel, and courier).
* Assist with prepare hazardous materials for transportation according to US DOT, IATA and IMDG requirements. This includes packaging, marking, labeling, and placarding.
* Understand and adhere to best practices and quality standards related to packaging, palletizing, and securing.
* Operate a shrink-wrap machine.
* Load trucks and export cargo units using safe handling and securing protocol.
* Interface with truck drivers.
* Manage inventory of finished products, raw materials, and intermediates. "Manage" in this context refers to put-away, consolidating inventory to optimize inventory density, transferring materials between warehouses, and retrieving inventory as needed to support daily operations.
* Retrieve, understand, and interpret information extracted from SAP related to outbound operations.
* Repetitively lift materials weighing between 30 and 50 pounds (up to 50% of the time).
Work in all weather conditions
Work Experience
Preferred
* Warehousing, shipping, receiving, or manufacturing experience
* Previous experience with SAP GUI or console
Education
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
