Job Summary

The University College/Visor Center Summer Student Worker in Academic Support Communities will support and execute the programs and services of University College and the Julia N. Visor Academic Center. During the summer, the Julia N. Visor Academic Center consists of 7 professional staff and 2 student workers. While each staff member has specific programmatic responsibilities, the center operates as a team, and therefore, student workers assist with a diverse mix of programmatic responsibilities. This position involves direct student contact in a one-on-one environment. In executing the duties of this position, the student worker supports the goals and objectives of University College. The position will work May 20, 2024 - June 30, 2024 for 27 hours per week.

Additional Information

In collaboration with senior full-time staff, the Academic Support Community's Student Worker will provide academic support for SOAR Scholars; They will develop a Fall and Spring orientation, workshop, and communication schedule for the SOAR Scholars Program. In addition, they will assist in strengthening our overall outreach model, improving our SOAR resource manual, and facilitating Preview conference sessions and virtual workshop sessions for SOAR students.


In addition to the above duties, Student Workers will have specific programmatic responsibilities in one of the following areas:
1. Assist in the coordination and programming of the academic services programs of University College
2. Utilize best practices in teaching and learning to assist students in their academic journey
3. Assist in building Hope Scholar outreach and support model
4. Research and design strategies for First Year Student success
5. Reviewing/updating programmatic documentation
6. Other duties as assigned or discussed with supervisor

Pay Rate

$19.00/hour

Work Hours

27 hours per week, Monday-Friday; with some evening and weekend hours required.
