Organizational Unit Overview
The Special Education, Foundations, and Research department is one of six departments within the College of Education. The College of Education houses five centers and institutes, including the ECU Community School and Rural Education Institute. ECU is accredited based on CAEP accreditation standards. The department includes special education, foundations, and research program areas and houses the Irene Howell Assistive Technology Center and the Neurocognition Science Laboratory.

The Special Education program offers undergraduate and graduate programs, including Bachelor of Science degree with K-12 licensure for special education-general curriculum and special education-adapted curriculum and a Master of Arts in Education degree with a Master's level K-12 special education teaching license for one of four areas: Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Emotional/Behavioral Disorders, and Low Incidence Disabilities. The department provides courses for special education, adapted curriculum and special education, general curriculum teachers to complete their residency license in North Carolina. Faculty in the department engage in regular collaboration and leadership with the shared goal of producing quality teachers.
Job Duties
The Department of Special Education, Foundations, and Research in the College of Education at East Carolina University is seeking applications and nominations for a fixed term, nine-month, full-time faculty position available Fall 2024. Title and salary are commensurate with qualifications.

Responsibilities include teaching online and/or face to face K-12 special education courses; meet with students during office hours; work on collaborative curriculum revisions; and serve on committees. Candidates will supervise practicum experiences and/or internships and provide service to the university, community, and profession. Other duties as assigned by the department chair.

This position is part of a college-wide search for the College of Education at East Carolina University (ECU), designed to connect, support, and empower incoming faculty along interests that support the .

* Sustaining an inclusive educational environment that welcomes a broad representation of persons and perspectives (e.g., recruitment and retention of all, including underrepresented groups in professional preparation programs)
* Collaboration with community and university partners to foster comprehensive well-being and educational transformation (e.g., community school education)
* Increasing access and advancement for all learners through innovative teaching, research, and creative activities.

Minimum Education/Experience
Requires Master of Arts in Education in Special Education, Master of Arts in Teaching, or Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction; teaching experience in a special education public school setting. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
PhD or EdD in Special Education or Curriculum and Instruction. Current or eligibility for NC Teaching Licensure in Special Education. Experience working with diverse K-12 students, experience developing and teaching online, asynchronous instruction for special education teachers seeking initial instruction, and experience with the edTPA preferred.
