Job Summary

The Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco(UCSF) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Investigational Cellular Therapy (ICT) group. ICT aims to push the boundaries of medicine by developing, engineering, and manufacturing promising new cell therapy products for a variety of indications including cancer, autoimmunity, infectious disease, and inherited hematologic and immune disorders. ICT has established collaborations with research groups within UCSF, academic institutions and industrial parners to advance cell therapies with enhanced safety and efficacy..

This position is an ideal entry point for individuals interested in technical or scientific positions supporting cell and gene therapy development. The successful candidate will join a highly skilled process development team to expand our estabilished viral and non-viral gene editing platforms. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the development and implementation of CRISPR-based technologies to enable powerful new approaches for targeted genome/epigenome engineering. The successful candidate will also work closely with a multidisciplinary team including Manufacturing, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Operations/Facilities and Regulatory Affairs.

Department Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco is a leader in cellular therapy research, training, and patient care. Faculty in the department are involved with a wide variety of standard of care and experimental cellular therapy applications including hematopoietic stem cell transplant, regulatory T cell therapy for autoimmune disease and solid organ transplant, anti-cancer T cell therapies, and mesenchymal stromal cell therapy. You will be situated within the larger cellular therapy community at UCSF, which is undergoing a period of rapid expansion.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (biology, bioengineering, or related field).
  • Minimum of 1+ years related experience
  • Strong understanding of cell biology and basic laboratory techniques.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge necessary to begin independent application of principles, practices and procedures in the completion of assignments of moderate complexity
  • Organizational abilities and decision-making to prioritize work assignments.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner, to assist in identifying any challenges or barriers.
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute to the development of innovative cell-based therapies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cell culture techniques and aseptic processing.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis software.
  • Previous internship or research experience in a related field.
  • Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) guidelines.
