Position Title:Nurse Resident - Registered Nurse - Dialysis - Days and Nights Available

Department:Adult Dialysis

Location: University of Oklahoma Medical Center

Shifts Available: Full-Time (36 hours/week) Days (7a-7p) (7p-7a)

Dialysis is located on lower level at OU Medical Center. Dialysis is in a procedural area and 8 beds. We seeking experience RN who are compassionate about providing excellent care in our Dialysis unit.

General Description:

Under general supervision, provides expert nursing care in a hospital to patients of the dialysis department.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assumes responsibility for dialysis patients assigned
  • Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; notes all changes in physician order on assigned patients
  • Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment
  • Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary
  • Administers medication as prescribed
  • Initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products
  • Delivers patient care competently
  • Interacts with family and patient in sharing care plan while in the hospital and at time of discharge
  • informs patient and family of hospital procedures
  • Makes referral regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel
  • Delegates tasks to support staff
  • Obtains blood sampling on a hemodialysis patient for pre and post dialysis lab draws for an ESRD patient
  • Performs operations dealing with Reverse Osmosis water system
  • Initialization and termination of dialysis with all available access i.e., central lines, grafts, fistulas, Life site ports, peritoneal lines

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing Board Approved Program preferred.

Experience: One (1) year experience in an acute care setting.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC). Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. ACLS (American Heart Association) required within 3 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques and procedures. Knowledge of dialysis equipment including hemodialysis, reverse osmosis water system peritoneal dialysis equipment. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees. Good verbal and written communication skills. Some computer skills.
