Overview

The Deposits and Payments Specialist reports to the Deposits Manager. This role requires proficiency in multi-tasking, member service, and problem solving. Ensures that daily tasks are completed within established guidelines. Demonstrates quality customer service by answering incoming calls regarding an extensive range of questions and inquiries. Resolves problems by clarifying issues, researching and implementing alternative solutions, and escalating unresolved problems.

Responsibilities
    Move daily ACH files from Federal Reserve to Patriot Officer for EFT representatives to process
  • Export incoming and outgoing wire transfers to Patriot Officer for OFAC check
  • Validate routing numbers provided on outgoing wires from offices
  • Speak with member on recorded phone to obtain outgoing wire information. Verify member and routing number, score member by verifying risk factors for potential fraud and determine if additional verification is needed, deduct wire and fee from member, and enter wire information in Episys
  • Send Accounting securities and holding statements from the Federal Reserve
  • Order cash and enter coin shipment for offices by verifying all branches have entered totals correctly. Place order from Loomis into Federal Reserve within designated timeframe.
  • Post all incoming and outgoing wires after all verification is complete multiple times daily
  • Enter notice of change and returned ach information into Federal Reserve
  • Verify users in PopMoney/External Transfers to determine if member is in good standing and account is permitted to have service. Determine risk factors for all transfers within Compass and contact member to verify and potentially suspend account
  • Notify Security of potential fraud on all products - PopMoney/External Transfers, Wires, and Remote Deposit Capture
  • Process all check exceptions, adjustments, and research outages
  • Process Remote Deposit Capture checks by viewing check, accepting or rejecting, and placing hold if required
  • Provide statistics and reports to manager for monthly reporting
  • Process loan charge off's (including bankruptcy and return checks) within established guidelines
  • Manage share accounts by analyzing reports and completing the required steps to place account in a charge off status
  • Make arrangements with member on their negative balance to prevent account from being charged off
  • Establish strong working relationships with credit union staff to assist with operational knowledge
  • Provide support to team members when absences occur by completing duties within established guidelines
  • Identify inefficiencies to streamline daily duties
  • Escalate problems to your team lead or manager for resolution
  • Assist with special projects in the department
  • Read all internal publications and complete training assignments promptly
Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • One to three years of accounting experience or related experience desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be accurate in all transactions and duties performed.
  • Excellent written and oral skills required in order to communicate with the membership and coworkers.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work with minimum supervision.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and the internet.
  • Ability to operate or have ability to be trained to operate related office equipment including calculator, check imager, computer terminal (PC), multifunction copier, microfilm and microfiche readers, proof machine, receipt and check printers and telephone.
