PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Product Development Scientist will be part of the Product Development team within the North American Nonwovens Science and Technology organization. You will develop new and innovative nonwoven products that deliver value to our building materials customers. This role will interface across all levels of the Nonwovens business and partner with internal and external stakeholders to define and scope projects, develop solutions, scale up, and launch products. This position is located at the Granville, OH, Science and Technology campus.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

  • Serve as the technical lead for customer focused projects from inception to manufacturing
  • Engage with customer's technical team to identify growth opportunities, anticipate market needs, and provide technical support
  • Partner with commercial, marketing, and operations colleagues to successfully develop and launch products
  • Manage projects utilizing the Stage-Gate process and project management tools
  • Partner with Intellectual Property and Strategic Marketing to develop strategy and control points for our technology

  • Collaborate internally and externally to accelerate technical solutions and fundamental understanding

  • Utilize project management tools for well-structured project execution
  • Leverages data analytics to drive efficiently drive decisions

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • MS degree in chemistry, materials science, or polymer/chemical engineering
  • 3+ years of experience formulating products in an R&D setting
  • Background in building materials, coatings, adhesives, or other polymer product development
  • Ability to travel at 30%

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • PhD degree in chemistry, materials science, or polymer/chemical engineering
  • Background in nonwoven/paper technologies
  • Background in coating development
  • Project management and stage gate experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Fluent in English with sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team
  • Strong data analytics and DOE background - JMP or Minitab experience preferred
  • Self-starter who works with minimal supervision and balances multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to learn across multiple technical fields
  • Must be able to lead horizontally across the entire organization
