The anticipated salary range for this role is between $150,000.00and $170,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation is hiring a Corporate Banking Associate. This role supports relationship managers ("RM") with marketing efforts for both existing and prospective clients, begin managing client relationships and generate new business as a supporting RM, engage in new client prospecting, assist in managing assigned client relationships with regard to ongoing servicing and in the cross sell effort.

Role Objectives: Delivery
  • Support relationship managers in business promotion including collaboration with RM, Group Head and product partners to generate ideas/source transactions and pitch M&A financing across the capital structure and cross selling of corporate and commercial banking products. In this context, also assist in client pitching, presentation material preparation, conference calls, client meetings and due diligence.
  • Support execution efforts by reviewing due diligence reports, coordinating processes with clients, advisors, other lenders and internal counterparties.
  • Assist the RM in negotiation of legal documentation.
  • Assisting with client development (assist in presentation of new ideas to clients, prospect outreach).
  • Provide support to the Lending Management team in managing the transaction execution process from beginning to closing and particularly in leading the effort to obtain capital allocation approval including modeling transaction and group risk adjusted returns (RAROC).
  • Secondary point of contact for covered clients and internal product partners.
  • Follow market trends, collect marketing intelligence and propose ideas to the team for new opportunities.
Qualifications and Skills
  • 3-5 years of specialized experience in Financial Services.
  • Minimum 3 full years of experience at the Analyst/Associate level in an investment or corporate banking group. Working knowledge of core corporate and investment banking products preferred.
  • Diversified Industrials sector experience preferred, but not required.
  • Series 79/63 preferred but not required.
  • CFA/CPA preferred but not required.
