Departmental Overview

Berkeley Public Health (BPH) aims to improve population health, especially for the most vulnerable, through interdisciplinary collaborations, preeminent education, and transformational research. Established in 1943, BPH is a professional school on the UC Berkeley campus that comprises six academic divisions and nearly 30 research centers and programs. The McCoy Research Group at Berkeley Public Health explores how social, economic, and cultural forces influence disease transmission and health outcomes through the lens of HIV infection and reproductive health.

The purpose of this position is to contribute to two ongoing global health research projects at UC Berkeley related to health and wellness of adolescents living in resource-constrained settings. The job requires contributing to a multidisciplinary team working under the direction of the UC Berkeley PI; reviewing and/or creating study-related materials; working with data collection systems; data analysis and interpretation; project monitoring and coordination; and, as needed, contributing to the development of peer-reviewed manuscripts, policy briefs, and infographics.

Responsibilities

  • Applies epidemiological and statistical skills to perform analysis of data from a large international research project.
  • Gathers and assembles analytical and factual data on study implementation and issues to prepare data monitoring reports and/or analyses summarizing information on study activities (e.g. participant enrollment, follow-up) and interpreting the results of such findings for internal and external scientific and lay audiences.
  • Prepares, edits, and modifies documents including weekly data reports for research projects and contributes to scientific manuscripts, study-related materials (e.g. SOPs IRB documents, protocols), slide presentations.
  • Using subject matter knowledge, reviews scientific evidence and summarized information for use in internal discussions and meetings of internal and external partners related to research projects.
  • Participates in administrative duties as assigned to support the research project.
  • Coordinates program planning and collaboration with program / project staff.
  • Participates in workshops, trainings, and other professional development activities.
  • Completes other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in multi-tasking with demanding timeframes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-cultural teams and to exhibit cultural competence.
  • Comfortable working in fast-moving dynamic environment with competing priorities.

Education/Training:

  • Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $32.00 - $37.00. The full pay scale range for this position classification (grade 19) is $28.30 - $48.71.

  • This is a 12-month, 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), contract position that is eligible for full UC benefits with the possibility of extension.
  • This position is non-exempt and bi-weekly.
  • This is a remote-friendly position, eligible for up to 90% remote capability.
