Job Summary:

Are you ready to make notable impacts on basic and translational research performed at UW? BRMS is looking for a motivated team-player to coordinate research efforts in our Research Services and Breeding Core. BRMS offers a supportive work environment with flexible schedules.

The UW animal program involves all aspects of animal use for research, teaching, and outreach. BRMS, the School of Medicine and Public Health's animal care department, is seeking a Research Program Coordinator to join their Rodent Breeding Core and Research Services team. The Biomedical Research Model Services Rodent Breeding Core and Research Services Core provides research support across all animal programs on campus. The Breeding Core breeds over 500 strains of mice and rats. Staff commonly breed mice for specific projects, perform studies inside the BRMS core facility, and deliver end point tissues or transfer live mice to laboratories after techniques are performed. Support ranges from a small portion of study to a complete study with final results.

This position will report to the Director of Research Services. The overall responsibility of this position will be planning and coordinating the administrative, operational, outreach and promotional activities related to research studies that may be collaborative and independent and serves as a subject matter expert. This position will develop charge backs, provide quotes and work with UW and industry contracts. They will also manage Standard Operating procedures, training documents and keep research records. They will coordinate project needs with researchers and work closely with the Director of Research Services, Animal Care Manager and Client Based Researchers to ensure compliance, order research supplies and secure resources to start projects. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently are essential. Organization, time management and attention to detail are imperative for success in this position. There is potential for a hybrid remote/in-person work schedule.

Responsibilities: Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
  • 50% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 10% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 5% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 5% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 5% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports
  • 20% Colony management of rodents

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Focus in a biomedical or animal related field preferred

Qualifications:

Required:
- At least 1 year of experience in Biomedical research setting.
- Experience in professional correspondence with faculty, researchers and their staff.
- Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of working with Excel and databases.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized and pay attention to detail

Preferred:
- Minimum of 2 years' experience working in an animal research setting.
- Knowledge of rodent breeding strategies and animal models.
- Demonstrated experience with accurate record keeping and compliance.
- Ability to use effective team building skills to create and maintain efficient operation of the work unit.

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $45,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $45,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
