About the Job

We are currently recruiting a full time ABGC/ABMG Board Certified/Board Eligible Genetic Counselor. Responsibilities of the genetic counselor will include evaluation and genetic counseling of patients undergoing complex genomic testing in inpatient and outpatient settings. There will be an emphasis on the inpatient setting and on the utilization of rapid genomic testing (exome/genome/targeted analysis). The counselor will be involved in clinical and research efforts.


This position is an interim role for graduates of a Master's Program in Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling who are awaiting licensure in order to be able to transition into a Graduate or Genetic Counselor title. Working under the supervision of a licensed Genetic Counselor/licensed physician, the Provisional Graduate Genetics Counselor will ensure that patient charts are prepared for clinic and will: assist in obtaining necessary medical, laboratory, and developmental records; pull relevant literature; obtain a three-generation family history; and provide prepared charts to the appropriate Genetic Counselor/physician to review prior to the family visit.

What you will do

  • Under the direction of a licensed Genetic Counselor/licensed physician in the Division, this position will ensure that patient charts are prepared for clinic.
    • Assist genetic counselors with record gathering including results of laboratory studies
    • Assist in writing letters of medical necessity
    • Coordinate paperwork for testing
    • For new patient appointments, accurately and thoroughly complete relevant intake information
    • Assist in scheduling ancillary tests and complete all necessary paperwork with sign off from the relevant licensed physician
  • Phone responsibilities
    • Record accurately and thoroughly all telephone messages, detailing the caller's name, company or patient name, phone number, and reason for call.
  • Patient Correspondence and Chart Maintenance
    • Assemble preliminary new patient chart within at least 24 hours prior to the new patient visit 100% of the time.
    • Call to obtain results or additional records as needed prior to patient visits


Licenses and Certifications

  • Genetic Counselor Provisional License - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - within 3 months - Required


Education

  • Master's Degree Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling Required
