The Health Tech Hub, located on Cornell University's graduate campus on Roosevelt Island in New York City, engages in cutting-edge research, entrepreneurship, and education at the intersection of health and technology. The Health Tech Hub is an initiative of the Jacobs Institute; established jointly by Cornell University and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, the Institute's mission is to transform key industries through technological innovation, deep-tech startups, and uniquely skilled talent. In these ways, the Health Tech Hub aims to create a more efficient, affordable, and inclusive healthcare system. Across all of our activities, we aim to bring New York City talent and economic impact and solidify its place as a nexus of healthcare innovation. Through collaboration with Weill Cornell Medicine, the NYC health ecosystem, corporations, start ups, government, and community groups, we identify healthcare challenges and opportunities, apply research in real-world settings, and jump-start innovative products, companies, and careers in health tech.


Position Summary

The Health Tech Initiative Director is an essential leader in driving the growth and expansion of the initiatives within the Health Tech Hub and work closely with the Jacobs Director Israel Cidon, Health Tech academic program director Tanzeem Choudhury, director of the Runway program Fernando Baquarez, and faculty to expand Health Tech program related collaborations with the city, state, and the healthcare establishment, growth of the Health Tech masters program, and create a funding model that supports research and entrepreneurship work related to Health Tech at Cornell Tech.


This is a benefits-eligible staff position for an initial term of two (2) years with possibility of extension. The work location is the Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island in New York City. The Director is expected to work on a hybrid schedule with presence on campus at least one (1) day a week.

Essential Functions Include:


Program Design and Development - 35%

  • Oversee Health Tech hub initiative activities. Create and maintain an Initiative roadmap including planning milestones
  • Collaborate with the Jacobs director, Health Tech Hub director, faculty, and other stakeholders to develop short and long range goals, action plans and milestones, strategic and operational planning, and measurement /evaluation processes
  • Create, lead and direct program design, scope technology deployment projects with agencies, and develop metrics of success along with a monitoring approach to the pilot program.
  • Identify programmatic trends and new opportunities that make Health Tech Hub a unique program within academia.
  • Provide direct leadership for program development. Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive and coordinated programmatic model that addresses needs;
  • May assist with recruiting, hiring, and evaluating staff; set office priorities; assure that required activities are accomplished in a timely manner. May supervise student workers
  • Monitor internal and external planning needs and accountability requirements to identify, develop and implement practical solutions.
  • Develop a financial plan to support and grow Health Tech hub activities

Engage and communicate with internal and external stakeholders with Health Tech initiatives. - 25%

  • Recommend, develop and design programs and courses with appropriate faculty and staff
  • Communicate with Health Tech Hub Director and other Cornell Tech Campus leadership on the program and promote new potential research collaborations with existing Cornell Tech, Cornell University or Technion researchers and faculty. Collaborate with other Cornell Tech and Cornell University offices as needed to execute on and enhance program goals, including HR, Finance, External Relations.
  • Communicate and confer with key partners and stakeholders; including Weill Cornell Medicine, health tech alumni community and innovation ecosystem, health systems and healthcare payors, academic colleagues, funders, and industry partners.
  • Manage relationship with any outside funders or other key programmatic partners
  • Explore health tech consortia creation to engage external communities, support health tech activities through consortia fees, and increase visibility of the work at Cornell Tech

Health Tech Hub Coordination - 30%

  • With the Health Tech Hub Director co-lead the development of proposals, moonshot aims, whitepapers, opinion piece, new funding initiatives and sponsorship plan for the hub's flagship HealthNext summit.
  • Lead, direct and develop programmatic connections and research projects with the Health Tech Hub
  • Support aligned studio projects and spinouts aligned with other concurrent Health Tech Hub initiatives

Other position-related responsibilities - 10%

  • Participate in projects with occasional work responsibility falling above or below current classification.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree and 3-5 year of relevant experience, or equivalent combination, preferably including background in the application of digital health technologies in healthcare context.
  • Experience in project management in academia, nonprofits, government, or the healthcare or technology industry.
  • Excellent communication skills in writing, meetings, and presentations; and in maintaining relationships with external partners and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; proactive approach to work responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to navigate both an academic environment and engagement with the healthcare care sector, technology companies and public sector partners.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical PhD (information science, computer science, ECE or related fields) or MD degree.
  • Experience working with and in a startup/innovation-forward culture.
