ROLE WITH THE COMPANY:
The Assistant Controller will have detailed knowledge of and help lead the company's financial and accounting processes, including the monthly close process involving the general ledger including account reconciliations, cash forecasting, and general ledger entries. Assist in developing/compiling/analyzing statistical data, identifying trends, formulating conclusions, and preparing complete and accurate financial and statistical reports. Reports to the Controller with close interaction with the CAO.
  • Perform month end close process duties, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding and documented system of the accounting policies and procedures and general ledger system.
  • Reconcile cash accounts: thousands of cash transactions daily from customers compared to bank transactions using Excel.
  • Assist in developing cash forecasting process and updating cash forecast daily.
  • Make recommendations to automate functions and limit reporting/accounting risks around vendor contracts.
  • Continuous review and improvement of processes to enable company growth.
  • Assist with maintaining a clear list of operational goals and departmental controls, policies and procedures to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and accountability of the department.
  • Assist with the internal controls design of processes and procedures that provide for appropriate separation of duties and checks and balances.
  • Develop methods and procedures to enhance effectiveness, efficiency and accuracy of financial data.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process.
  • Participate in providing managers with accurate, timely financial information necessary for decision making.
  • Assist with integrating acquisitions into company policies & procedures, accounting systems.
  • Support CAO and Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.
  • Assist with the provision of information to external auditors.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 3+ years of accounting experience managing the monthly close process
  • Heavy reconciliation experience and ability to analyze large amounts of data
  • Experience with and an eye for improving processes to create efficiencies
  • Experience spearheading automation, specifically AP as they are still entering paper invoices into QuickBooks
  • Data savvy data analytics person to do process improvements
  • Comfortable building out role and processes as they go with high growth startup - no huge training regimen
  • Experience with acquisition integration a plus
  • Strong experience with accounting systems (QuickBooks a plus), good with data analysis in Excel
  • Self-starter, willingness to learn, adaptable as role could change
