Job Description

The Assistant Press Operator will assists Press Operators with press make ready, operating, and maintaining sheet-fed or web offset printing press.
This includes:

  • Inserting packing sheets on plate cylinder to build up plate to printing height, fastening reinforcing bars to offset blankets, and installing plates and blankets on press cylinders, using hand tools and power tools, to achieve pressure required for printing
  • Adjusts press machine parts, such as feeder and delivery mechanisms, suction grippers, guides, feed wheels, jogging devices, tapes, and cams, using hand tools
  • Assist in removing and replacing worn rollers and adjusting pressure between rollers of press, using hand tools
  • Wash blankets and cleans ink and ink distributing rollers and ink fountains, using ink solvent and cleaning mechanism on press
  • Assist Press Operator by making necessary color or register corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality specifications of the work
  • Operate web printing press to print quality production, maintain quality of product, lead and direct press crew, maintain press, and
    work on other operation duties as directed by the supervisors
  • Perform all make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated such as hanging plates or installing cylinders, examine
    plates/cylinders for imperfections and checks for correct positioning of images, prepping blankets, adjusting tension and register etc.
  • Makes necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality
    specifications of the work
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press, making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts as required
  • Performs periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturer
  • Responsible for over all quality of the printed product including color reproduction, product specifications, imaging quality and
    postal specifications
  • Provides accurate documentation of time, materials, impressions, waste, and run speeds
  • Responsible for maintaining a Preventive Maintenance Program for the press, and using the "Request For Action" system to notify
    the maintenance department of issues with the equipment
  • Operate web printing press to print quality production, maintain quality of product, lead and direct press crew, maintain press, and
    work on other operation duties as directed by the supervisors

Qualifications
  • Ability to read and follow job specifications to determine press set-up materials needed to run the job successfully
  • Knowledge of the appropriate amount of packing pressure needed to obtain the proper printing pressure for the type of job being run
  • Knowledge of in-line finishing, die cutting, inserters, imagers, color and register is required
  • Skill to follow instructions to operate equipment safely and produce the desired product
  • Ability to use micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctly
  • Ability to make adjustments to feeder and feed board (e.g., ability to adjust suctions and blast, front and side guides and the timing of the head stops)
  • Skill in performing routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment under guidance of senior level Press Operators
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Requires minimum 2 years general knowledge of offset presswork procedures and materials

Additional Information

Thepay range for this role at the noted location is $19.22- $25.48 / hour. The

actual rate of pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education,
skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, and location. In addition to
base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also
include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and stand-by pay. RRD offers benefits
