Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving is a subject matter expert for FIU's digital and direct mail fundraising and brings innovative ideas to launch annual giving campaigns. Manages digital and direct mail fundraising efforts to acquire, retain, engage and upgrade FIU annual giving donors. Provides fundraising support for the university's development program. The position will be responsible for supervising one or more student assistants.

  • Collaborates with Annual Giving Department leadership, the Assistant Director implements and manages digital and direct mail fundraising program and campaigns, executing effective strategies and techniques in email marketing, digital advertising, website promotions, and other efforts.
  • Coordinates a year-round phonathon, direct mail, or faculty and staff campaign program that will involve identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual gifts from alumni, faculty and staff, parents, friends, and corporations.
  • Implements deadline-driven direct marketing fundraising campaigns including FIU's day of giving, calendar year-end, fiscal year-end, constituent specific campaigns and launch new campaigns.
  • Creates triggered email marketing campaigns to drive donor retention and conversion and increase lifetime donor value. Presents the college's financial needs and funding goals articulately, persuasively, and with confidence.
  • Supports direct marketing fundraising activities for donor-facing programs managed by other Development teams, schools, and units.
  • Serves as a key member of the Annual Giving & Development teams and will be instrumental to help shift culture to fully embrace digital innovation and experimentation to deliver an Omni Channel donor experience. Serves as platform administrator by configuring settings, providing ad hoc reports to partners, creating URL redirects, managing fund designations, representing giving platform at ITS & Development Operations meetings & projects, evaluations, and more.
  • Supervises the direct mail campaign by working with internal and external partners. Works in partnership with Donor Relations and Stewardship, acknowledge gifts to the FIU Foundation. Utilizes Raiser's Edge to enter notes and update giving bio, while maintaining strict confidentiality, as well as tracking metrics for strategic fundraising purposes.
  • Partners with various foundation departments including the Office of Marketing and Communications, Development Communications, and other key stakeholders to manage the digital fundraising advertising program, and develop and implement paid digital advertising campaigns to acquire and retain donors through existing and emerging advertising platforms like Facebook, Google Ad, etc. Partner to help Advancement Operations develop an ongoing process for email list hygiene and clean-up in the supporter database and related systems, based on best practice. Works with the Division of Strategic Communications, Government and External Affairs, to ensure consistency with university branding efforts and campaign alignment.
  • Analyzes effectiveness of Direct Marketing fundraising campaigns against organizational and industry benchmarks. Manage testing plan and roadmap to optimize digital fundraising efforts to increase revenue and lifetime donor value. Monitor and interpret program KPIs, giving statistics, trends, successes, and outcomes, sharing results and key takeaways with Development and other colleagues to optimize program impact.
  • May supervise departmental Student assistants. Distributes work tasks and assignments and delegates, when appropriate.
  • Serves as the primary expert and liaison for FIU's online giving platform. As appropriate, create and deploy web assets (i.e lightboxes and homepage heroes etc.) and update fundraising website content. Support and/or implement digital conversion strategies for programs where fundraising is not the primary objective (i.e virtual events, school/unit efforts, etc.).
  • Works with various University Advancement departments to coordinate all aspects of the annual Faculty & Staff events and other on campus constituent campaign events. Works with the Director of Development for Ignite and in conjunction with Gift Services & Data Processing departments to oversee data and reporting for the Ignite Campaign and on campus constituent annual giving campaigns.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of experience related to community relations, not for profit, fundraising environment and/or related organization with two (2) years of experience in annual giving/ fundraising.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with at least one eCRM or CRM tool, such as Pipedrive, Saleforce, Blackbaud.
Proven donor/customer strategy and communication skills, including experience in creating effective digital and multichannel campaigns and writing for email, mobile, website, digital ads, and social media.
Experience with Google paid advertising and Facebook advertising campaigns. Demonstrated experience creating, distributing, and reporting on performance of digital content.
