Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
The Senior Project Controls Specialist supports the planning, execution, and closure of multiple planned power plant Outages in Calpine's generation fleet. The Senior Project Controls Specialist leads project controls processes by engaging with the Outage management team to drive the schedule and cost tracking deliverables outlined in Calpine's Outage Management Program.
This role is accountable to develop, maintain, and communicate multiple Outage schedules and cost tracking plans with internal stakeholders and external contractor partners.
Working with multiple Outage Managers, Business Managers, Engineers, and plant leadership, the Senior Project Controls Specialist drives the development of an integrated Outage Schedule that logically organizes the work from multiple projects and develops one schedule for all outage work that identifies critical path and near critical path activities being done during the Outage.
The Senior Project Controls Specialist synthesizes budget information to develop cost tracking plans for each Outage, and documents/communicates scope changes during planned Outage work. Exercises discretion and independent judgment based on plant operations, maintenance needs, resources, and timing considerations. Combines multiple work scopes and schedules from various contractors for work to be performed during a scheduled plant Outage, into one integrated Outage Schedule that links dependent activities and defines critical path work. Provides consultation and expert advice to management team on sequencing work and tracking Outage cost budget/actuals.
Additionally, identifies and communicates issues completing planned work in allocated time windows with available resources. Exercises discretion and independent judgment to integrate plant maintenance/operation work into major mechanical Outage work windows, identifies resource limitations. Supports cost tracking for Outage budgets vs actual (includes BOP Maintenance work, plant support cost, Engineering, and major maintenance work). Provides data to plants to develop budget for Plant Support Cost in support of major mechanical and Outage Services project work. Communicates Outage Schedules and Cost Tracking.
