DESCRIPTION

Performs diagnostic trouble-shooting, repair and maintenance of sophisticated complex electronic, electro-mechanical and mechanical biomedical equipment. Examples include ventilators, anesthesia machines, ultrasound, surgical lasers, infusion systems, patient monitoring systems, and other electro-mechanical and microprocessor-based instrumentation. Repairs and maintains other non-direct patient care equipment. Should have general IT and cybersecurity knowledge related to the healthcare technology environment. Evaluates new, proposed and existing equipment and related maintenance programs making recommendations for changes.

Coordinates vendor service for repairs and preventive maintenance. Performs acceptance inspection of new biomedical equipment and ensures equipment meets manufacturers' specifications for safe and proper use. Completes purchase requisitions for parts and supplies. Contributes to continuous quality improvement projects and activities. Assumes lead role for Biomedical Equipment Technician 2 & 1. Performs duties independently with minimal need for assistance or supervision. Maintains a safe, clean and pleasant work environment. Fulfills team roles as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • College level; or equivalent electronics training and experience.

  • Must have a valid CA driver's license and acceptabledriving record.

  • Three - Five (3-5) years expert level experience in medical equipment repair and maintenance.

  • Formal electronics education.

  • Working knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

  • Healthcare/Medical Center experience.

  • On the job training in a medical facility.

  • Display expert judgment in decision making in expedient situations where patient safety may be at risk.

  • Working knowledge of regulating agencies codes and standards for hospitals and clinics (title 22, TJC, AAMI, NFPA, etc).

  • Proficient in computer software programs and applications, Microsoft Office, Outlook Email, etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • AS in electronics.
  • Equipment manufacturer's training certifications.
  • AAMI CBET Certification.
  • Network Certifications.
  • Work experience in an academic healthcare institution.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Required to be part of the rotating on-call staff covering nights, holidays and weekends.
  • Must be willing to travel for educational purposes.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Per Biomedical Equipment Services department on-call policy, technician must reside within a safe commutable distance to be able to respond to on-site emergencies within 60 minutes or less.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $101,456 - $126,157 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $48.59 - $60.42

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
