Introduction to the Job

ASML US, including its affiliates and subsidiaries, bring together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers - the world's leading chipmakers - to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, Netherlands and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices inChandler, Arizona, San Jose and San Diego, California, Wilton, Connecticut, and Hillsboro, Oregon.

The Advanced Development Center at ASML in Wilton, Connecticut is seeking a Materials Scientist/Spectroscopist to support the Forensics root cause analysis team. The Advanced Development Center (ADC) is a multi-disciplinary group of engineers and scientists focused on developing learning loop solutions, proto-typing of next generation wafer and reticle clamping systems and industrialization of proto-types that meet the system performance requirements.

Role and Responsibilities

The main job function is to develop materials characterization techniques pertaining to spectroscopy and to perform general material and chemical investigations in order to identify root causes. An important component of the role is to use of failure analysis tools like SEM, AFM, WLI, ToF-SIMS, FIB, etc., to measure R&D proto-types, components in various manufacturing stages, and customer product returns. Collecting, organizing, documenting, and communicating data is a critical part of our team that is dedicated to solving challenging engineering problems associated with achieving nanometer scale precision. The Spectroscopist will also be responsible for leading analysis of spectroscopy-based data to help solve ASML challenges as well as the development of new processes or techniques that can be utilized for various material cases.

As a Forensics Materials Scientist - Spectroscopist, you will:

  • Develop processes for the measurement of ASML products using spectroscopy techniques
  • Procure, support installation and qualification of new spectroscopy tools (e.g. ToF-SIMS, FTIR, Raman, etc.)
  • Lead interpretation of ToF-SIMS, Raman and FTIR data from Forensics
  • Understand the functions of critical ADC hardware and their components to enable root cause analysis
  • Set-up and operate failure analysis tools (e.g. SEM, AFM, WLI, ToF-SIMS, FIB, etc.)
  • Further develop interpretation of data from other spectroscopy techniques, including but not limited to XPS, UV-vis, fluorescence, atomic absorption, etc.
  • Support lab manager to troubleshoot equipment issues to maximize equipment lifetime and uptime
  • Work in a cleanroom environment on equipment and hardware
  • Assist the team to grow knowledge of characterization techniques versatility
