Job Description

About the Role:

As a Senior Product Development Engineer II, you will work on a variety of product development projects, as well as providing product support to adjacent team projects. Activities include, but are not limited to, designing, and optimizing new and existing products to complement and enhance product offerings, continually improve quality, reduce warranty risk, and minimize production cost, while sustaining a competitive advantage in the transportation industry. This position plays a vital role in solving customer problems by researching technical options and designing products/product improvements that push the envelope of what's possible for the best product performance and user experience. The Senior Product Development Engineer II will also collaborate cross-functionally to integrate the needs of Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Strategic Sourcing departments.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Solve customer problems by identifying and developing product solutions in terms of form, fit and function
  • Collaborate to specify product functional requirements, identify design failure mode risk (DFMEA), develop testing strategies (DVP&R) according to user needs based on internal and external standards and regulatory requirements, while managing cost and weight initiatives
  • Create testing methods and interpret testing results
  • Support department initiatives (e.g., VA/VE, and new products) through Product Change Process
  • Partner with manufacturing on quality related process improvement projects, lean manufacturing projects, and equipment qualification/validation, through review of protocols and reports
  • Partner with warranty to solve customer related issues in an effective timely manner
  • Participate in internal and external corrective and preventive actions
  • Other duties as assigned

Let's Talk About Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME), Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET), or equivalent
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in product development and proficiency in 3D CAD software (preferably SolidWorks)
  • At least 3 years of experience in manufacturing and working cross-functionally with quality and purchasing
  • Proficiency in complex engineering analytical CAE tools (e.g., CFD, FEA, and ANSYS)
  • Proficiency in Material Properties and Design of Experimentation
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including practicing good emotional intelligence
  • SAP and PLM experience is a plus
