JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Summary

The Instructional Designer works collaboratively with faculty, colleagues, College Advancement and Student Services to analyze instructional outcomes and provide expertise in the planning, development, and delivery of effective, efficient, essential learning experiences through all modes of delivery. The Instructional Designer is an essential member of a highly productive Academic Excellence Team guided by a commitment to professionalism, accountability, and attention to results.Please note - this position is on campus in Wausau, WI and is not fully remote.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Provides consultation to program faculty and subject matter experts regarding curriculum and assessment.

  • Provides design, development, technology integration, and planning for curriculum and instructional implementation.

  • Reviews content and assessments for quality and alignment to curriculum development principles and standards during quality review cycles and prior to release.

  • Recognizes and collaboratively resolves potential process issues during curriculum development; identifies and implements solutions so the curriculum development principles/standards and planned delivery dates are achieved.

  • Participates in and attends ongoing meetings and team activities related to curriculum design/development.

  • Collaborates with Instructional Design, Professional Development, Instructional Technology, and IT staff to develop and deliver customized training for faculty in various software and technologies.

  • Remains at the forefront of technology-enhanced learning, curriculum, and assessment strategies through professional development.

  • Integrate affordable educational resources into curriculum development. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Education:Bachelor's Degree

  • Degree in Education or Related Field

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree

  • Coursework in curriculum and instructional design, instructional technologies, and interactive software

Experience:3 Years

Additional Experience Information:

  • Teaching and instructional design experience

  • Experience developing learner-centered performance-based curriculum

  • Experience with a variety of teaching strategies and techniques, such as cooperative learning, teamwork, and brain-compatible techniques to facilitate learning

  • Knowledge and experience using quality management principles, quality tools, facilitating teams, and managing projects.

  • Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment in a variety of settings and situations

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments and manage complexity under deadlines

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization including students, faculty, staff and the community.Ability to work in an environment that has multiple calendar due dates and achieve goals to meet internal and external customer needs. Flexible scheduling is required.

  • Knowledge and experience of college operations.

  • Understanding of the academic operational and budget processes and procedures.

  • Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite.

Preferred:

  • Experience using WIDS (Worldwide Instructional Design System) for performance-based learning.

  • Experience working in an institution of higher education.

  • Experience working with Competency Based Education design methods.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Language Skills:

Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret complex documents; present topics to internal and external individuals of all levels.

Math Skills:

Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to critically think and solve problems involving a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization; interpret written, oral and diagrammed instructions.

Technical Skills:

Ability to manage and track document changes; create, modify and format templates and files; ability to use multiple computer screens and multitask in several computer applications.

Customer Service Skills:

Ability to actively listen, discern key information, and respond professionally; ask follow up or clarifying questions to diffuse escalated situations and offer appropriate problem resolution when necessary.

  • Demonstrated success working with a Learning Management System (LMS) or Learning Relationship Management System (LRM).

  • Able and willing to work flexible hours. Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends to meet deadlines and staffing needs.
