Job Description

The Senior Environmental Scientist provides technical knowledge, experience, and expertise associated in multiple specialized topics associated with challenging non-routine projects ranging from offshore wind site characterization to suitability studies to fisheries science. Develops novel geospatial modeling techniques. Codes and develops software and/or applications to optimize habitat characterization workflows. Trains and mentors junior Environmental Scientists. Analyzes multiparameters datasets including photographic data, macrofauna data, and physicochemical data and produces high-quality technical reports. Authors publications and presentations. Reviews complex technical and commercial proposals as part of a team. Possesses ability and willingness to perform offshore fieldwork and travel if required.


Job Responsibilities

  • Lead by example and place Quality, Health & Safety, Security, and the protection of the Environment as core values while never intentionally placing employees, our processes, customers, or the communities in which we live and work at risk.
  • Perform geospatial and geostatistical analyses such as integrating various data sets, aggregating and manipulating data at various spatial scales.
  • Develop custom, reproducible geoprocessing workflows to support high-end spatial analysis.
  • Contribute to development of data visualization applications, informed by needs of end users/clients
  • Organize and input data into databases, maintain accurate detailed records of observations, measurements, and results.
  • Maintains good technical and professional reputation with Fugro client base; Has an established network of influential clients that bring profitable work to the business, including government experience (e.g. NOAA); Demonstrates independent and effective commercial influencing of clients. Able to independently generate more than half of own annual revenue target captured from unique client network balanced with revenue captured by others in the organization. Develops opportunities for providing specialized consultancy directly to Clients and / or developing opportunities for project development by other senior Fugro staff.
  • Stays current on areas of specialization and informs management of the significance of technological developments. Promotes specialized knowledge (including new or improved technologies, techniques, and other technical innovations) both internally within Fugro as well as externally to Clients; Able to demonstrate the financial viability of area of specialization within context of Fugro's P/L account. Strong desire to innovateand deploy the latest technology to develop novel analytical techniques (web-based )
  • Pursue opportunities to publish technical papers at national and international level, preferably on project related topics.
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with external consultants, academic institutions, special interest groups, regulatory authorities, and key technical personnel in other service lines pertinent to areas of specialization.


Job Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
  • Possess the ability to obtain a valid passport for international travel.
  • Possess current driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Possess a Master's degree or higher in Marine Science, or relevant equivalent accompanied by professional and/or government experience, with interest/experience in aspects of physical, chemical, & biological oceanographic and benthic data acquisition and analysis
  • Have 2 years or more experience as a Scientist I (Project Scientist) including relevant field work.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basics of technical specialty.
  • A general knowledge of computers with exposure to the exposure to the MS Office suite and GIS platforms and ability to develop novel geospatial methods with these tools .
  • Experience of intertidal/nearshore/offshore environmental survey techniques
  • Experience of marine macrofauna identification and/or physical and chemical analysis
  • Experience of statistical analysis and relevant statistical software, e.g. R.
  • Knowledge of at least one coding language, e.g., Javascript
