Technician II - Lau Lab (CVM)

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine comprises an interactive faculty engaged in research in infectious disease and host immune response. We seek a self-motivated technician that is interested in investigating the molecular mechanisms of innate and adaptive immune memory.


The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain an experimental mouse colony (breeding, weaning, bookkeeping)
  • Harvest and process tissues for genotyping and experiments
  • Perform and interpret basic flow cytometry analysis
  • Perform and interpret experiments using standard molecular biology techniques such as nucleotide isolation, PCR, and gel electrophoresis
  • Use standard software for data analyses, visualization, and presentation (FlowJo, Graphpad, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and notify supervisor of concerns
  • Maintain day-to-day operations of the lab including inventory management, maintaining reagent availability, and training of new staff/trainees.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma with at least 6 months of related research experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be comfortable with handling mice on a regular basis.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to successfully complete Cornell training courses (i.e. animal use, radioisotope use, chemical safety), if not already completed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in biology or related field strongly preferred. Experience with flow cytometry and mouse handling is desired
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
  • This is a full-time two-year term position with subject to renewal after one year and potential for extension, both continent upon funding and performance.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
