Job Description

The Cardiac Device technician obtains readable rhythm strips of implantable cardiac devices remotely. This position is responsible for obtaining accurate information recorded, utilizing required equipment appropriately and recognizing basic ECG rhythms.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately conducts device checks and obtains rhythm strips over the telephone and remotely, recording all pertinent data.
  • Recognizes and notifies supervisor and/or doctor of any suspected problems regarding malfunctioning of device, recommended replacement times, and arrhythmias.
  • Accurately instructs patients and/or family members regarding device checks, pulse taking, and use of trans-telephonic transmitter.
  • Performs basic office and clerical duties such as preparing charges accurately and timely, copying, typing and filing.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills with patients and/or family members to obtain cooperation /compliance with pacemaker checks.
  • Answers patient's calls and request in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies efficiently and appropriately.
  • Maintains patient charts and other departmental data, preparing and providing information as required/requested.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification. Pursues professional growth and development.


Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and/or verbal communication.
  • Basic Computer skills. Ability to file numerically and alphabetically.
  • Knowledge of Basic ECG Rhythm recognition (normal & abnormal functions).
  • Knowledge of various pacemakers/implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICD)/implantable loop recorder (ILR) and remote systems.
