Job Details:

Purpose

Provide technical leadership for the development team working on a geographic mapping software application for sensor data, including sonar, optical, and other data in the Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL).

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership for a team of software engineers

  • Process management including planning weekly meetings, backlog management and communication with cross functional teams

  • Planning and executing development efforts

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/computer engineering, computer science or other related discipline.

  • At least three years of experience in software development in a managerial or leadership role.

  • Demonstrated ability to program in C++.

  • Thorough understanding of object-oriented programming concepts, data structures/design patterns/algorithm performance analysis.

  • Possess working-level understanding of Linux operating systems and administration.

  • Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time.

  • Ensures efficient execution of overall product delivery by prioritizing, planning, and tracking sprint progress. This can include the development of shippable code.

  • Actively engages in product and business discussions with a technical eye for feasibility and adherence to overall roadmaps and architectural strategy.

  • Models an environment of strong collaboration and partnership with engineers, domain architects, product leaders, stakeholders, and partners to drive execution of roadmap, negotiate changes in priorities, and manage communication of impacts.

  • Proven experience in managing and leading technical teams to navigate complex challenges and deliver highly-effective solutions.

  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and leadership skills

  • Ability to provide technical and managerial leadership for a small team of software engineers by being a hands-on technical leader and mentor

  • Ability to build good working relationships with people at all levels, and understand the needs of different stakeholders and communicate with them appropriately

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in one or more areas of GIS software development, database-driven geographic analysis, implementation of service oriented architecture (SOA) applications

  • Experience developing multi-threaded, multi-machine computational software applications, and/or experience with inter-process communications and networking protocols, such as RPC

  • Experience in developing graphical user interfaces and using graphical toolkits such as Qt or GTK

  • Experience with open-source build tools and procedures in the Linux environment

  • At least 5 years of experience programming in the C++ programming languages

  • Experience with high-frequency SONAR or other underwater sensor data analysis

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Salary

$104,000-$174,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications
