The University of Notre Dame () is accepting applications for a Behavioral Health Clinical Case Manager.

The Behavioral Health Clinical Case Manager (BHCCM) is a University Counseling Center (UCC) position embedded in University Health Services (UHS) which facilitates the coordination of care for students whose presentation of issues at UHS includes behavioral health concerns. The BHCCM oversees behavioral health screenings, provides brief behavioral health interventions to students, and offers consultation on behavioral health and wellness issues within the primary care setting of UHS. The BHCCM facilitates referrals to the UCC for mental health treatment and facilitates the coordination of care between the UCC and UHS. The BHCCM manages the psychiatric care provided on campus when students are not receiving individual therapy concurrent with psychiatric services or when they are in concurrent therapy with an off campus treatment provider. The BHCCM is a member of the Eating Disorder Treatment Team and assists in managing the care of students being treated by this team. Finally, the BHCCM participates in both UHS and UCC departmental meetings as appropriate and assists with the health and wellness outreach activities sponsored by both departments.

Essential Duties
  • Delivers the following types of behavioral interventions within the primary care setting of UHS:
    • Brief behavioral interventions to students as part of their health care visit based on referrals from UHS providers. In collaboration with the provider, offers recommendations for additional support services, mental health treatments or psychiatric specialty care. Documents interventions and services in the UHS electronic medical record.
    • Recommends and facilitates referrals to the UCC or to off-campus for mental health treatment. Documents within the UCC record keeping system.
    • Provides mental health case management in support of UHS providers.
    • Coordinates and initiates psychiatric hospitalization for students who present with significant risk factors at UHS.

  • The BHCCM participates on the Eating Disorder Treatment Team and is responsible for: charting team consultations; supporting students in connecting with higher levels of care or campus resources; and managing any communications with parents or off campus providers. The BHCCM will facilitate care provided by the specialty dietician services at the UCC when the student is receiving therapy with an off-campus treatment provider.

  • The BHCCM assists UHS with the mental health screening program to proactively identify issues of depression and anxiety in students seeking services at UHS. The BHCCM collaborates with UHS leadership to develop protocols and provide training to providers in screening procedures and develops educational materials and conduct follow-up interventions for students who are identified as at risk through the screening process.

  • The BHCCM participates in health and wellness activities, outreach efforts, and other administrative responsibilities for the UCC and UHS, as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or Bachelor's degree (5 years) or advanced certification.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Indiana.
  • 3 to 4 years Experience.
  • Demonstrated competency in the delivery of brief behavioral interventions, administration and interpretation of mental health screening tools, crisis-assessment and management skills.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to multicultural issues and proven ability to offer culturally-sensitive interventions to a diverse group of individuals from underserved communities.
  • Organization, follow-through, and ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills required to interact with multiple levels of stakeholders, including students, providers, campus partners, parents, etc.
  • Ability to problem-solve, maintain confidentiality with sensitive information and manage nuanced situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously handle and manage multiple tasks and initiatives.
  • A solid understanding of boundaries and professional ethics.
  • Familiarity with electronic record keeping systems.


Preferred Qualifications:
* Outpatient case management experience.
* Bi-lingual or multi-lingual.
* Familiarity with psychotropic medications.
* Experience in using motivational interviewing techniques.
