Primary Purpose
The Capital Value Process (CVP) is the process for planning and reviewing business opportunities through a multi-staged approach with each stage having a clear set of deliverables used to direct the scope and quality of development activities for capital projects. The CVP objective is capital efficiency for Sempra Infrastructure. The Capital Project Solutions (CPS) Advisor is responsible for supporting the implementation and management of the Capital Value Process (CVP) in the three Business Lines, working with Assurances Managers and other CPS Advisors to ensure consistent application across the organization. The objective of the role is to support and coach the project teams in adopting and implementing the CVP and its guidelines, navigating the assurance and gating process, and ensuring the assurance plan and deliverables are built into project scope. This role will also work from time to time with the Capital Project Solutions Manager in continuous improvement of the CVP Design, content and tools management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acts as partner and coach with project teams to ensure appropriate CVP planning and implementation. Facilitates assurance reviews, framing and BEAM workshops, risk workshops, best practices and learnings workshops and use of CVP tools. Coaches project teams to drive consistent use of Best Practices across projects.
  • Works with project teams to identify relevant assurance reviews and deliverables; aligns on the timing, sequence, and budget of reviews; and supports Assurance activities.
  • Works with project teams to develop a Project Assurance Plan to identify requirements and deliverable expectations.
  • Supports roll out of training and tools to Project Teams and Assurance Review Team Members on process and quality standards and promotes the value of assurance across the organization.
  • Supports Capital Project Solutions Director, with leadership from Assurance Managers, in tracking progress of each project, any challenges and working with other business lines liaisons to ensure consistent approach to the CVP across the organization. Partners with the business line and support functions to build CVP knowledge.
  • Supports the Capital Project Solutions manager to contribute to efforts to continuously improvement CVP Design, content and tools. Assignment of scope will change from time to time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, or business
  • 3+ years of related oil/gas and/or power industry project management or construction management experience on complex projects and/or business specific project types.
  • Ability to influence action and build consensus among different stakeholders through effective negotiation.
  • Ability to work independently, when required, as well as working with Teams with member virtually and in person.
  • Ability to understand the nuances and details of projects as well as manage and analyze complex commercial and financial contractual transactions.
  • Ability to analyze project risks and identify their potential impact on the project's financial or schedule performance.
  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and respond rapidly to change requests.
  • Ability to manage and develop others.
  • Ability to listen carefully and consider all points of view, while at the same time maintaining decision authority and independence.
  • Possesses strong social skills, self-awareness, and empathy. Leads and coaches through experience. ability to build relationships to achieve business objectives.
  • Strong facilitation of complex situations.
  • Knowledge of key drivers that affect project financial performance, commercial and joint venture agreements, and governance frameworks.
  • Ability and understanding of information systems and tools. Working with developers to communicate requirements for development, testing and finalizing development of fit for purpose tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a gated project work process for project development.
  • 2+ years working with a multitude of contractors and contract forms (e.g., reimbursable, lump sum, lump sum turnkey, etc.)
  • 2+ years of working within project teams for other industries outside of oil/gas (e.g., Chemicals, Infrastructure, Mining and Minerals, etc.)
  • 2+ years of background/experience in Operations, Project Controls, and Construction Management.
  • 2+ years of experience in small (less than approximately $15 million) capital project experience.
  • Project Management Certification.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.


HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 2-3 days per week.
