Garver's Urban Planning Team is expanding, and we are seeking an experienced and motivatedUrban Plannerto join us. The applicant should have a passion for the pursuit of urban planning projects relating to land use and transportation for public entities of all sizes and types. This Planner will have the opportunity to work with our diverse staff composed of engineers, technicians, environmental scientists, designers, landscape architects, and fellow planning professionals to achieve our clients' goals for their communities.
General responsibilities of this role will include:
  • Coordinate with members of Garver's Urban Planning Team to serve the planning needs of clients throughout Garver's multi-state service area
  • Developing and writing planning studies and reports such as comprehensive plans, transportation plans, sub-area plans, downtown plans, active transportation plans, overlay districts, infrastructure prioritization plans, and recreation plans
  • Assisting existing client municipalities with development review, answering public questions on behalf of the client, and assisting with long-range planning efforts
  • Assisting with the review of development proposals and site plans to ensure compliance with codes, plans, and regulations
  • Utilizing GIS software to develop maps, author geospatial data, and conduct technical analysis
  • Helping in the development of land use regulations such as zoning codes, subdivision codes, and sign ordinances
  • Assisting with preparing or presenting detailed reports and plans for clients
  • Conducting public engagement through public workshops, surveys, and digital engagement techniques
  • Researching and compiling data relevant to producing reports and/or maps to include demographic and socioeconomic data
  • Assisting with the evaluation of re-zonings, ordinance amendments, site plans, permits, variances, or other proposals
  • Supporting efforts of the client to resolve questions or issues involving planning projects or information shared with the public
  • Conducting field evaluations and assessments
  • Attending client and public interest meetings
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning or a related field
  • Zero (0) to four (4) years or more of relevant planning experience.
  • Practical knowledge of the principles of planning
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including, Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Strong knowledge of ESRI GIS Mapping Software such as ArcGIS Pro
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
  • AICP certification and/or Master's degree in Urban Planning or a related field
  • Practical experience in municipal or regional planning or direct client management as a planning consultant
