Summary

Operate machine(s) as defined in the Machine Operator Manual following all safety procedures. Adjust machinery when operating and ensures machine adjustments or changes of materials is completed in a timely manner. The Operator must demonstrate a detailed understanding of the quality requirements for the product being produced and able to make adjustments as necessary to achieve maximum quality. These positions have a direct effect on the quality of our products. The Operator performs minor preventative maintenance (PMs) as necessary evaluates upstream and downstream line dependencies and communicates changes to other operators or line personnel. This requires strong leadership and demonstrated skills to maintain upstream and downstream line equipment in harmony. Operator evaluates throughput problems and bottlenecks and makes reasonable recommendations to solve the problem. Reports any problem with the equipment or supplies to their Supervisor, Shift Lead or Team Leader. Troubleshoots equipment effectively, appropriately seeks assistance of a trained Mechanic and explains equipment problems to the mechanic and ask questions if necessary.

Equipment typically operated by a Machine Operator II includes:

    Labeler
  • Sollich Conbar Slabbing Line
  • Candy Auto Cutting System

This role may be used as a training prerequisite for a higher level Machine Operator position.

Shift:7PM - 430AM
Pay: $19.92/Hour + $1.50 Shift Differential = $21.42/Hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Machine operator is responsible for the following duties:

  • Set up equipment at beginning of shift and during shift
  • Stock supplies and ensure correct supplies are used.
  • Prime and test equipment as needed.
  • Make changes to equipment and packaging as required.
  • Effectively troubleshoot equipment.
  • Performs minor Preventative Maintenance as required.
  • When machine issues arise, call the mechanic and explain the problem.
  • Document operations by completing all required forms.
  • Make sure the product is sealed and has the correct code (if applicable).
  • Change materials to avoid downtime and can identify sub-standard supplies.
  • Maintain timing of the canning line so that backup is minimal.
  • Correct any line jams that may occur.
  • Operate machine in a safe manner.
  • Communicate to Supervisor, Shift Leader or Team Leader any machine or process problems in a timely manner.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks as it relates to their respective area for the purpose of providing a clean and safe work environment.
  • Able to work well in a team oriented atmosphere
  • Can attend meetings representing the functional area.
  • Comply with the policies outlined in the Amy's handbook.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • Must have at least 6 months of Amy's experience or demonstrated previous machine operator experience.
  • Must have at 6-12 months experience as a Machine Operator III or equivalent experience in a similar working environment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Able to read complex instructions
  • Able to complete complex forms
  • Able to communicate with supervisor/ team members to optimize production

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers.
  • Can calculate percentages.

Reasoning Ability

  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Employee may be required to move material in and out of freezers. May work near equipment that generates heat.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for extended periods, perform manual dexterity activities and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
