Associate Controller

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

The position entails performance of the following responsibilities under general direction and work independently on day-to day task:

The Associate Controller will have P&L responsibilities for the Athens site including Analyzing Commercial and manufacturing performance to ensure the site is achieving key financial targets. The site is key to Carpenter growth and delivering on financial performance is needed for internal and external stakeholders.

Utilizing SAP; Prepares reports, forecasts and analyzes trends in manufacturing costs, sales, finance, general business conditions and other related areas. Communicates financial estimate changes to forecasts at various intervals during the month to management. Supports close activities relating to manufacturing accounts and provides performance variance analysis to forecast and plans. Utilizes costing information to support operations team to identify and understand areas of process and cost performance improvements. Including partnering with Athens Controller to drive overall improvement in Athens site and for Additive business overall.

Primary responsibilities for the Associate Controller...

Close Duties

  • Participate in the monthly closing process by preparing applicable journal entries for inventory related items as well as providing insight behind monthly performance as it relates to forecast and plans.
  • Provide analytics regarding financial performance, variation to plan and forecast.

Forecasting Duties

  • Develops monthly and fiscal year forecasts for Business Unit.
  • Responsible for validating data and performing reasonability checks.
  • Responsible for cost analyses, reports, metric development, forecasts, budgets, and supporting process and performance improvements for Business Unit.
  • Communicate financial estimates at various intervals during the course of the month to keep management apprised of any developments or issues that could potentially have a significant impact on financial performance.
  • Develops financial reports and provides guidance/assistance to less experienced Analysts and non-finance managers in the areas of forecasting and financial analysis.
  • Lead the annual budget process for the site and support for the business Operations Support Duties:
  • Responsible for stablishing and setting standard and current product costings within Business Unit and updating monthly/annually into SAP.
  • Support Manufacturing GM and department managers by providing weekly cost reports, participating in weekly staff meetings and pro-actively identifying and analyzing cost performance changes.
  • Support inventory counts, ensuring process compliance and that physical adjustments are properly reported and accounted for.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Required for the Associate Controller
  • Four-year college degree required in Accounting or Finance. Advanced degree or certification such as CPA or MBA or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • 7+ years of Finance or Accounting experience.
  • Career history of progressive promotions in a leading finance organization.
  • Ability to leverage experience and expertise to drive business process improvement.
  • Leadership on staff level for both Athens site as well as Additive overall business leadership.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced knowledge of financial analysis Techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of Carpenter's accounting systems desirable.
  • Advanced computer spreadsheet skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to work under frequently changing priorities.
  • Analytical Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to coach & mentor less experience Analytics.
