Job Description Summary
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, invites applications for a 9-month, full-time non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor of Scenic and Lighting Design beginning August 16, 2024. This position includes a course load of six (6) assignments over the course of the academic year (3:3 load) through a combination of teaching in foundational, intermediate, and advanced design courses in the areas of scenic and lighting design and equivalent design assignments within our mainstage season.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess a MFA in Scenic Design, Lighting Design or an applicable field at the time employment begins. Ideal candidates will have previous teaching experience at the collegiate level as well as professional design/production experience.

The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the U.S. at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

We desire a candidate that is committed to teaching undergraduates, has a passion for collaborative storytelling, excels in communication, and has a desire to be part of a compassionate team of educators and practitioners. Experience with sustainable practices within the field is desired.
Special Instructions to Applicants
With approximately 100 majors, the Department of Theatre and Dance offers a B.A. in theatre as well as B.F.A degrees in performance, musical theatre, design & technology, and management. The department is housed in a dedicated theatre facility including a 340-seat house with proscenium/thrust stage, a black box performance space, studio theatre, design studio, fully equipped shops, a dance/movement studio, a vocal studio, a smart classroom, and a computer lab.
