Job Summary
This position is located at Auburn University - Stormwater Research Facility located in Opelika, AL.

The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering's Civil and Environmental Engineering department is seeking candidates for the Research Tech position. This position will provide research support in the capacity of a research technician at a large-scale lab facility to maintain, schedule, and operate the facility in an efficient manner. The research involves setting up and conducting large-scale channelized flow experiments. It also involves directing undergraduate research assistants to help with daily tasks associated with the functioning of the facility.

Provides direct technical support to researchers by maintaining, scheduling, and operating facilities and equipment; collecting and/or providing technical expertise on specimens/samples; and gathering/reporting data.

Essential Functions
  • Set up, install, and conduct all experimental tests related to active erosion/sediment control research
  • Collect pre, during, and post experimental data for all tests performed
  • Perform data entry from data collected and conduct simple data analyses
  • Assist in the development of testing protocols, data collection procedures, and testing reports
  • Schedule and manage temporary personnel and undergraduate assistants used for testing/maintenance/housekeeping purposes
  • Oversee laboratory analyses of water quality samples taken during experimental tests
  • Maintain all testing equipment and facility grounds
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and machinery
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Level I: High school diploma or equivalent.
Level II: High school diploma or equivalent plus 1 years of relevant experience.
Level III: High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of relevant experience.
Level IV: High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of relevant experience.

Experience: Experience in research and/or lab equipment operations.

Substitutions allowed for Experience: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

Minimum Skills and Abilities
knowledge of erosion and sediment control practices employed in typically construction situations
General carpentry skills, general mechanic skills for maintaining equipment
Ability to operate and maintain heavy machinery
Minimum Technology Skills
Minimum License and Certifications
Job related licensure may be required for specific positions.

Desired Qualifications
Completed a qualified credential inspector (QCI) or a qualified credential professional (QCP) training effort - desired, but not necessary
