Job Summary

The Health Promotions Coordinator develops, plans, presents, and promotes prevention and wellness educational and outreach programs. This role designs and develops prevention initiatives and curriculum to address health and wellness issues using theory and evidence informed practices and prevention strategies. The Health Promotions Coordinator tracks and utilizes data to improve programming.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Plans, develops, implements, and presents prevention and outreach health education programming to encourage healthy lifestyles and wellness through educating individuals and groups. Creates new health education programming and curriculum.
  • Develops, implements, leads and/or conducts formal training programs for Peer Educators and other Prevention & Wellness staff.
  • Ensures that events and curriculum are research-based and meet established learning and behavior outcomes for all students.
  • Oversees wellness coaching and conducts one-on-one student wellness sessions. Plans, conducts, and tracks educational sessions in coordination with Student Conduct.
  • Coordinates the Wellness Warrior education program.
  • Plans and coordinates events, seminars, presentations, and workshops that support Prevention & Wellness strategic goals.
  • Organizes the dissemination of health promotion materials to current and prospective students.
  • Manages the Eagle Link platform for promotion of events, data and attendance tracking, and connecting with students.
  • Develops, administers and analyzes continuous assessment of programs. Utilizes survey feedback and program data/performance metrics to develop program improvements.
  • Provides regular program observations to increase the quality of program delivery. Identifies opportunities for improvement that enables the program to achieve its strategic goals.
  • Collaborates with other campus departments to promote cross-campus community, to support programming initiatives, and to ensure awareness of student issues/concerns.
  • Stays current on trends and education on issues facing college students in order to develop new and improved programming.

Other Duties:

  • Serves on University-wide committees as needed.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional, full-time experience with student mental health, student development, health promotion, or closely related field.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Two or more years of professional full-time experience in college health education, student mental health, college student development, educational or student support programming.
  • Success in developing internal and external partnerships to achieve collective goals to promote social change.
  • Experience with Campus Labs/Anthology platform.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of teaching principles, practices, and theories.
  • Knowledge of basic health education, counseling skills and an ability to apply in areas of educational presentations, program assessment, personal wellness, problem solving, conflict resolution, and group management.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental indicators of student mental health concerns, substance abuse, and other signs of students in distress.
  • Knowledge of peer education, prevention, health promotion and wellness issues on a university campus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of patience, teaching, classroom management, and flexibility skills.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to use a variety of educational/teaching methods.
  • Ability to provide health education presentations to various groups and community organizations.
  • Ability to keep abreast of current issues related to health education through professional publications and research.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a diverse community and willing to contribute to a team effort.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Ability to be comfortable discussing and educating students on sensitive topics in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.

Salary Range: $44,200 to $54,000
