More and more, our academic clients need to be provided with pathways to differentiate themselves from the competition. They need individuals who can take a fresh look at their strategic goals, long range strategic plans, master plans, space utilization and classroom and lab planning to help develop solutions that will create a sustained, successful future for years to come.

We are looking for an Education Principal Planner, who can lead/support academic clients through a variety of planning scopes including strategic planning, master planning, cross campus planning, space utilization, new ways of learning space planning/traditional learning space planning, and teaching lab planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The primary duties of the Education Principal Planner are to lead all campus and learning space planning with academic clients. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading user group meetings of multiple stakeholders in the academic planning process.
  • Representing and sharing thought leadership with our clients and project teams.
  • Developing visualization communication with staff to convey planning ideas and principles.
  • Embracing HDR's Data Driven Design culture while collaborating directly with our predictive analytics and computational design teams who are supporting academic planning and programming with our clients.
  • Work directly with our business development and marketing teams to develop pursuit strategies and capture plans for the market as a whole and for targeted clients.
  • Participating in client interviews and working directly with clients to facilitate workshops/sessions.

Additional duties to include but not limited to:

  • Development of our industry thought leadership.
  • Providing an added value to our clients and projects through industry research.
  • Conducting literature searches and reviews.
  • Developing research plans to further ideas on the future or current state of education.
  • Crafting white papers.
  • Presenting at conferences and developing articles.

The successful candidate will want to:

  • Dedicate their time to promoting student-centered learning experiences and advancing vision, mission, and institutional goals for our academic clients.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients with aptitude for building client trust and relationships.
  • Collaborate with other ofce leadership to develop, advance and implement the goals of the Education Sector.
  • Actively network at professional events, extensive community-involvement, attend and speak at conferences.
  • Lead and contribute to the research, ideation, development, and successful implementation of new product and service offerings for clients.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams that include analysts, strategists, designers and clients.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to ideate and evolve solutions.
  • Work with data analysts to design models that are logically sound, imaginative, and defensible.
  • Ask questions. Seek clarity. Listen. Empathize.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field

* A minimum of 12+ years related experience

* Strong organizational skills

* Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in the construction of buildings

* Understanding of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, prints, drawings and models

* An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

* Masters degree

* 10+ years in the Business/Administrative Office of a college or university.

* Experience with early phase marketing, pursuit development and organizing client interface.

* Knowledge of higher education facilities, including academic buildings, science + technology, health education, engineering, STEM, libraries and campus planning for both public and private campuses.

* Research experience in academia, published research.

* Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners
