Job Summary

Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) support the department and its faculty members in assigned courses. Duties vary based on the type and nature of appointment, and may include but are not limited to the following:

Typical Instructor of Record Functions
1. Serves as primary teaching instructor
2. Meets with lead section professor for supervision
3. Attends all classes and laboratories
4. Prepares examinations
5. Attends study review sessions
6. Meets with and/or tutors students enrolled in the course
7. Has scheduled office hours
8. Prepares instruction materials
9. Grades student assignments
10. Records grades for students enrolled in the class
11. Manages all class related responsibilities
12. Miscellaneous other tasks as assigned

Typical Lab Assistant Functions
1. Serves as primary lab teaching instructor
2. Assists a faculty member with teaching-related tasks
3. Attends scheduled laboratories, study review sessions and examinations as required by a faculty member.
4. Meets with and/or tutors students enrolled in the course.
5. Has scheduled office hours
6. Prepares instruction materials
7. Grades student assignments, which requires knowledge of content taught in a class or laboratory
8. Records grades for students enrolled in the class or laboratory as directed by professor
9. Miscellaneous other tasks as assigned

Typical Functions of Other Psychology GTAs
1. Serves as secondary teaching instructor in a class or laboratory
2. Assists a faculty member with teaching-related tasks
3. Attends scheduled classes or laboratories, study review sessions and examinations as required by a faculty member
4. Meets with and/or tutors students enrolled in the course
5. Has scheduled office hours
6. Prepares instruction materials
7. Grades student assignments, which requires knowledge of content taught in a class or laboratory
8. Records grades for students enrolled in the class or laboratory as directed by professor
9. Miscellaneous other tasks as assigned

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

TBD depending on type and nature of the appointment and on FTE

Required Qualifications

1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
2. Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University
3. Currently enrolled in a Psychology Graduate program at Illinois State University

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held. International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session.
