Job Description
The Biostatistician provides knowledge in statistical analysis to institutional staff interested in conducting clinical or experimental studies or to other researchers as designated by grant relationships. The Biostatistician progresses towards working independently with investigators. Some direct communication with investigators is expected.

Overview
The (GPM) is a growing department looking for professionals who are eager to help implement the mission of training the clinical workforce, developing and strengthening health systems and patient-centered initiatives, and advancing knowledge to sustain continuous improvement through research.

Summary

This position will provide analytic support to program teams in GPM and St Jude Global. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of Implementation Science methods and applications to improve point of care and patient health outcomes. In addition, candidates should know quantitative and qualitative scientific methods, including the design of data collection instruments and data analysis, using the selected implementation science theory, model, or framework. Knowledge/experience in quality improvement studies, methodologies and analytic methods will be an added advantage. Some responsibilities will include programming, data analysis, graphical presentation and reporting of results, interpretation and explanation of statistical techniques used, and making valid inferences. These activities will be executed as appropriate under the guidance of a GPM Faculty Member. The biostatistician progresses towards working independently with investigators, and the ideal candidate should have some experience communicating directly with investigators.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the analysis of research studies by using appropriate statistical and/or mathematical techniques.

  • Provide support of the statistical analyses of research studies by extracting data and ensuring accurate data files.

  • Communicate with clinicians, scientists, statisticians, and other interested staff relevant study or statistical information.

  • Assist in the statistical analyses of research studies by using standard statistical software, packages, system programs, and other software.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned or directed to meet the objectives of the department.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, or related field.

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's degree with 4+ years experience in biostatistics and/or epidemiological consulting and/or research.

  • Experience Exception: Master's degree with 2+ years of experience OR PhD with no experience.

  • Experience in standard statistical and/or epidemiological methods, statistical software programming, and/or study design is preferred.

Preferred Experience

This is a great opportunity for candidates with a master's degree in a scientific discipline (including public health, health outcomes), and experience in healthcare research. Coursework in implementation science and/or experience with implementation science studies will be an added advantage, together with some familiarity with implementation science theories, models, and frameworks and their use in study design, data collection instrument design, and/or the analysis and reporting of implementation data.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.

  • Adaptable problem solving and analytic skills.

  • Knowledge of statistical methods. Familiar with descriptive statistics and linear statistical models including analysis of variance and regression and fundamental knowledge of analysis of categorical data

  • Knowledge of statistical software such as SAS, R, SPSS, S-Plus, StatExact, Stata, Minitab, etc.

  • Ability to quickly synthesize new information from diverse sources.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work well within a team environment.

  • Ability to carry out broad assignments with minimal supervision.

  • Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities.

  • Ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to handle sensitive matters in a confidential and professional manner.

  • Cultural sensitivity is a must.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $86,320 - $154,960 per year for the role of Biostatistician - Global Pediatric Medicine.
