BASIC PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to assist the Corps Officer(s) in providing case management and housing search assistance to the families at the Booth Family Center. This position will ensure that families can access community resources, locate appropriate housing, and maintain permanent housing once placed. This position will be required to do basic screening, intake, and follow case management procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Participate in day-to-day operations of the transitional family shelter, ensuring a safe, supportive, drug- and alcohol-free environment.
  2. Collaborate with social workers, counselors, CalWORKs, and other community partners to ensure families receive comprehensive support services.
  3. Develop and maintain relationships with external agencies, churches, and volunteers to enhance the range of services available to shelter residents.
  4. Document client participation in program and maintain accurate data entry of client information (Intakes, Needs, Services, etc.).
  5. Work alongside families to identify, address, and clear-up barriers to housing.
  6. Advocate for the needs and rights of families in transition within the broader community.
  7. Assist program participants in using traditional and online tools to access available resources. This includes supporting recovery meetings and training opportunities, such as anger management, parenting, budgeting courses, 12-Step programs, etc., to help families develop and use skills necessary for success upon program completion.
  8. Adhere to strict confidentiality standards.
  9. Provide clients with transportation/transportation assistance to pertinent appointments.
  10. Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  1. Associate's degree in social work, counseling, or a related field required.
  2. Previous experience working in social services/human services preferred.
  3. Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  4. Must have strong oral and written communication skills; ability to speak, read, comprehend, write and communicate effectively in the English language and in a professional manner.
  5. Willing and able to maintain confidential information in accordance with The Salvation Army and industry standards.
  6. Ability to maintain good rapport and communication with other staff members, and the public.
  7. Must be able to relate to individuals in crisis, ability to work in a team atmosphere. Lived experience related to recovery, resilience, or similar life challenges is highly valued; active engagement within The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Programs, Narcotics Anonymous and/or Alcoholics Anonymous are ideal.
  8. Must have ability to empathize, communicate and work with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
  9. Excellent organizational, prioritizing, planning and problem-solving skills.
  10. Be flexible and able to perform other related tasks as they arise.
  11. Must be at least 21 years old.
  12. Ability to drive and maintain a valid Class C California Driver's License, pass The Salvation Army required driver testing, and maintain a clean MVR.
  13. Able to endorse and promote The Salvation Army's mission.
  14. Must be able to pass a complete and satisfactory background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  2. Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
  3. Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools: PC, Telephone, Copier, etc.
