Description

SUMMARY

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, and assisting with audit preparations. Overall responsibility is to ensure the accounting department creates accurate and timely financial records for AMPP and its affiliates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Prepares journal entries and is an integral part of the close processes.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations for bank accounts and reviews and approves bank reconciliations performed by other staff.
  • Prepares all payroll entries and reconciles general ledger payroll accounts.
  • Assist with preparation / reconciliation of intercompany balances and transactions, ensuring proper allocation, reconciling transactions, and resolving discrepancies
  • Prepares and/or assists with preparation of all accrual entries; serves as a mentor to accounts payable on expense accruals.
  • Assists with the activities of subledger accounting such as fixed assets and inventory
  • Reconciles subledger to general ledger account balances
  • Assists staff accountants on revenue analysis, proper documentation for reconciliations and reports to accounting management
  • Creates and reviews audit schedules for the annual external audit and assists with audit documentation requests and analysis
  • Assists with the monthly review of the financial statements and reports any potential opportunities before preliminary financial reports are published to management
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and monthly forecasts
  • Performs other duties as assigned

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Some travel is expected for this role.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited educational institution, plus 5+ years of related experience. CPA or CPA Candidate preferred.
  • Understanding of accounting procedures, US GAAP, internal control procedures, and ISO 9001 compliance.
  • Working knowledge of accounting procedures, strong understanding of US GAAP and internal control concepts and procedures,
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Power Point) required.
  • Understanding of automatic accounting systems. Microsoft Dynamics GP, Quick Books Online (QBO), and NetSuite experience is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize work, appreciation of confidential information, and strong attention to details
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, members, employees of the organization, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, etc. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to develop and interpret business graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Must possess a specific level of communication skill both verbal and written. Have demonstrated personnel management skills including, but not limited to, the ability to evaluate staff performance and provide direction, is highly desirable. Ability to work in a multitask environment taking into account various external factors and to communicate efficiently and accurately to both managers/supervisors and subordinate staff.

Must be computer literate with knowledge and experience in word processing and spreadsheet software. Ability to learn and use association specific software.
