Position Summary

The Department of Philosophy at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for two non-tenure track one-year lecturer position to begin in August 2024. One of the appointments has the opportunity to be renewed. These full-time positions are focused on teaching key department courses with strong and/or growing enrollment including PHI 1010 - The Big Questions: An Introduction to Philosophy (General Studies (GS): Arts and Humanities [AHUM)); PHI 1030 - Thinking about Ethics: Morality and the Good Life (GS: AHUM); PHI 1060 - Ethics in Medicine and Science (GS: AHUM), PHI 1110 - Language, Logic & Persuasion (GS: Oral Communication); PHI2040 Philosophy of Religion (GS: AHUM); PHI3000 History of Ancient Philosophy (GS:AHUM); and PHI 3370 - Computers, Ethics, and Society (GS: AHUM). Position Responsibilities

The successful candidates will teach four courses per semester, which may include both lower and upper-division courses, as well as developing new philosophy courses for MSU Denver in areas of growing interest (e.g. environmental ethics, philosophy of technology).

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy or closely related discipline. ABD candidates with evidence of a plan for successful dissertation defense before the start of the fall 2024 semester in August are welcome to apply
  • Evidence of ability to teach most or all of the courses highlighted above

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching
  • Evidence of ability to develop new philosophy courses for MSU Denver in areas of growing interest (e.g. environmental ethics, philosophy of technology)
  • Experience with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English language learners

Salary for Announcement

The salary range for these positions is $55,000 - $57,000 at Lecturer level. The salaries of the finalists selected for the roles will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
