WHAT TO EXPECT

As an innovation leader, we look for ambitious, forward-thinking, open-minded, and well-rounded individuals to join our global team. Located in our Elizabethtown office, we are seeking a chemist to join the Product Development Team which is responsible for the manufacture of polyurethane power transmission belting. The chemist will be part of a global team of scientists and engineers supporting polyurethane belting manufacture and commercialization activities. The chemist is considered a Subject Matter Expert in the areas of polyurethane elastomer formulation, chemical and physical property characterization, and process optimization.

The Senior Chemist supports all functions related to polyurethane power transmission belting manufacture and commercialization. They provide technical support to procurement, HSE, operations, engineering, commercial, and legal groups. They lead lab efforts ensuring the quality of the compounds and formulations we use in belt manufacture. When needed they trouble shoot and train others in trouble shooting activities. They develop plans, conduct analyses, experiment with materials, and prepare reports with the analysis and interpretation of their findings. They act as a liaison between manufacturing and R&D to effectively manage trials with new formulations from concept development through the manufacturing approval.

Key responsibilities:

  • Development and fast turnaround of polyurethane elastomer formulations.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and specifications.
  • Failure analysis of production and customer returns.
  • Troubleshooting of manufacturing processes and methods.
  • Analytical, physical, and dynamic testing of elastomer products.
  • Analysis and interpretation of test data.
  • Completion of process documentation: raw material specifications; formulation specifications; test procedures.
  • Preparation of technical reports for use by engineering, management, and sales.

ABOUT YOU

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or other related engineering field.
  • Four years or equivalent experience in chemical synthesis, chemical testing, formulation, elastomer testing, and/or manufacturing/development support.
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and hands-on practice.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Multi-tasking.
  • Software includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
