Job Description

At Antora, we're on a mission to stop climate change. And we can't do that unless we tackle the 30% of global emissions that come from industry.

Antora is unlocking zero-emissions industrial energy, cheaper than fossil fuels. Antora's thermal batteries store energy from renewables as heat for days on end, delivering that stored energy as heat and power at the scale and temperatures that large industrial operations demand. We're on a path to eliminate gigatons of emissions while strengthening domestic manufacturing, curbing industrial air pollution, and enhancing America's clean energy leadership.

We are growing our company with people who put team and mission first, value connection through laughter and joy, and build with humility and openness. We are committed to continue building a diverse, passionate, and creative team dedicated to a future where every industrial facility, everywhere on earth, is powered by abundant, low-cost, zero-emissions energy.

Position Summary

As Director of State Affairs, you will build and lead a team of state policy advisors and advocates to transform state and regional electric markets in a way that supports the rapid deployment of thermal batteries and accelerates industrial decarbonization. The team you lead will shape electricity markets, help identify and secure state and local grants and incentives, win state support for our projects, and drive efforts to integrate thermal energy storage into all aspects of state electric resource planning and decarbonization goals. This role reports to the VP of Communications and Public Policy and will work closely with Antora's project development and commercial teams. This is an opportunity to harness your knowledge, skills, and experience in government, advocacy, thought leadership, and coalition-building to help usher in a zero-carbon future. This is also a unique opportunity to join a world-class team at a fast-growing startup poised to rapidly scale our breakthrough industrial decarbonization technology.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Define and execute state electric sector policy advocacy and government affairs strategies across the United States in collaboration with Antora's policy, project development, and commercial teams
  • Collaborate with policy team members and electric market design experts to ensure that electricity markets permit equal participation of thermal batteries
  • Build and lead a team of external government affairs advisors in key states and regions to support Antora's commercial and decarbonization goals
  • Represent Antora at external forums, conferences, hearings, and on external working groups to advance Antora's positions
  • Build coalitions and strategic partnerships with electric utilities, NGOs, trade organizations, peer companies, and other stakeholders to advance Antora's policy priorities
  • Collaborate with Antora's leadership to define team resource needs and strategies to respond to a constantly changing environment
  • Continuously monitor state and regional policy and regulatory developments, including state and local incentives and grants, and define and execute strategies to engage and advocate with relevant stakeholders, as needed

Key Qualifications

  • Demonstrated track record securing notable policy changes related to clean electricity in state regulation and legislation
  • Deep knowledge of electric power markets and utility regulatory policy
  • Expert communicator capable of engaging with a range of audiences from technical analysts to senior policymakers and shaping persuasive and analytically rigorous documents for different audiences
  • Strong understanding of how to engage senior state government officials, utilities, clean energy industry representatives, and environmental NGOs
  • Strong organizational skills, including the capacity to lead multiple cross-functional workstreams simultaneously
  • Ability to work well under pressure and show flexibility and resourcefulness in problem-solving
  • An experienced mentor and team builder, and a generous team player who collaborates well and is excited to act as a senior individual contributor, with the potential to build out a best-in-class team
  • 8+ years of experience in public policy and/or advocacy
  • Advanced degree in law, business, policy, or public administration and bachelor's degree in materials science or a related STEM field preferred but not required
  • Ability and willingness to travel, as needed

We are excited to share our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.
