The Department:
You will join a nationally accredited agency (one of only five agencies in the State of California) by the Commission for the Accreditation of Parks & Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) amongst a team dedicated to upholding the department's mission to promote community health and wellness while building a diverse culture that embraces change and continuous improvement.

Position:
Under the supervision of the Recreation Area Manager/Recreation Supervisor, this position provides general administrative and program support in the maintenance, implementation, and monitoring of Aquatics programs and staff.
The Senior Instructor/Lifeguard is a part-time, year-round position. Under the direction and supervision of the Recreation Supervisor-Aquatics, the person in this position will teach and administer a variety of aquatic classes, lifeguard and assist in the following areas: personnel supervision, public relations, record keeping, programming and facility operations, and maintenance. The Senior Instructor/Lifeguard is in charge of aquatic facilities, programs and staff in the absence of the Aquatic Supervisor and/or Recreation Supervisor-Aquatics.



Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise aquatic facilities, programs and assigned staff as directed by the Recreation Supervisor-Aquatics
  • Other duties may include but are not limited to:
    • Providing water rescues
    • First aid and/or CPR, teaching, and coaching
    • Record keeping and preparation of daily revenue deposits and related reports
Qualifications

  • Good Judgment, communication skills, attention to detail, organized and focused
  • Ability to manage many tasks at the same time
  • Knowledge of supervision, ability to learn quickly, good leadership skills
  • Teaching experience as a good instructor/role model
Experience & Education

  • Must have high school diploma or G.E.D
  • 3+ years experience, with increasing responsibility in the Aquatics field
  • Experience instructing all levels of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim and water safety program
  • Experience supervising a staff of five or more lifeguards or aquatic staff is desirable
Special Requirements/License or Certificate:
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
  • First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22)
  • Oxygen Administration
  • Water Safety Instructor within six (6) months of hire
  • Lifeguard Instructor is preferred
Physical/Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, and lift 25lbs. +; exposure to outdoors; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
This is a non-benefitted position.
*Part-time employee cannot exceed 1,000 total hours worked within one fiscal year.
