Job Description
Why do we need you ?

This position will be night shift rotating 12's.

The job consists of supporting the operation of a single phase or 3-phase electric arc furnace with the current operating instructions for producing NV crude abrasive product.

  • Batch preparation, operation of weighing and transfer equipment. The helper must understand and demonstrate proficiency using all process equipment associated with the feed system.
  • Operate furnace including (setups, start up; feeding, pour, etc). This is a multi-step process that requires use of electrode hoist, furnace controls, feed system controls, Quench Tunnel elevator system operation, rotary screeners, use of jack hammer and sledge hammer.
  • Pour furnace properly to produce the desired product, make sure air nozzle, air pressure, pouring rate, and tunnel position is appropriate for the product and the conditions.
  • Closely monitors pollution control equipment and reports any malfunctions immediately. Checks transformer oil level, hydraulic oil levels, inspects transformer, furnace, and mold cooling systems and ensures that all auxiliary equipment is working satisfactorily and effectively.
  • Ensures that quality is maintained by carefully following operating procedures and instructions. Operator has overall responsibility for accuracy and recording of all weights and measures associated with furnace operations. Area housekeeping and cleanup. Operator must complete a thorough clean-up of assigned area each shift. Operator must be able and willing to carry out written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Product handling and sampling including product identification. Helper must fully understand and demonstrate knowledge of feed and scale system, method of collecting samples, proper identification and labeling of product (Q1, Date, Weight, Shift, Initial), by product type (cyclone fines, Q1, Q5, NV, etc), and refuse.
  • Furnace Records; Takes meter readings, reads temperatures, pressures, makes necessary calculations, and records all data pertinent to the furnace operation, all furnace operating data as required. Operator must accurately record all aspects of furnace operations and be able to perform math skills to calculate time, weights, temperatures. This component of operation requires computer knowledge and ability to enter data into spreadsheets, databases, etc.
  • Setup of and use of various molds (CS mold, etc.) as needed. Setup and use of quench tunnel and collection chamber as needed.
  • Material handling, weighing, bagging. This includes the proper disposition of all associated materials. It will require using various handling equipment. Forklift and overhead crane certified required. Must be able to operate the forklift safely and accurately in tight quarters.
  • Perform all the duties in a safe, responsible manner in accordance with the Saint-Gobain EHS Charter, observing all Company and Government regulations. Observe and report all unsafe conditions to the Shift Leads. Comply with company policies and safety rules

  • Lifting and/or moving up to 50lbs (Frequently/Potentially on an hourly basis)
  • Working in extreme heat environments with required PPE (Hourly)
  • Continuous bending, carrying, lifting, using manual dexterity, pulling, pushing, walking, using hand and power tools. (Hourly)
  • Driving and/or maneuvering forklifts/skid steers (Hourly)
  • Manual use of shovels, pushers, and other tools for necessary housekeeping activities (Hourly)

High School Diploma or equivalent

Training, certification in relevant equipment
