Job Description

We are seeking a Research Technologist. The Research Technologistperforms laboratory tasks, experiments and complete routine assays following common or established protocols and procedures. Uses basic science knowledge to learn techniques/methods of the lab. Gain problem solving skills through progressive training, understanding of the research, and experience. Identify and resolves common problems involved in routine research assays. Understands the role of senior lab members and accepts constructive guidance. Increases own skill base and knowledge of lab research and relevant assays. Train users in standard equipment operation and routine lab techniques and procedures.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set-up experiments based on defined standards.
  • Collect project data.
  • Perform related laboratory maintenance, monitoring inventory of supplies, cleaning equipment. Transgenic mosquito rearing and handling, assisting with the development of transgenic mosquitoes using embryo microinjections techniques and genetic crossing and selection.
  • Performing mosquito infection assays with malaria parasites (Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium berghei) and arboviruses (dengue and Zika virus), involving feeding on pathogen infected blood, and scoring infection phenotypes using mosquito dissections and microscopy, plaque assays and qPCR.
  • Collection and processing of data and generation of graphs.
  • Perform related laboratory maintenance, monitoring inventory of supplies, cleaning equipment.
  • Set up, optimize and validate lab protocols.
  • Organize laboratory working areas and supplies.
  • Routine maintenance of equipment.




Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field


Preferred Qualifications
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
