Purpose of the job

Primary source of technical support at the site. Technically able to address all aspects of the system, but also a resident "expert" in one or more major component groups of the site system.

Key responsibilities and challenges

Lead and direct all maintenance, engineering, and repair activities for assigned shift, ensuring all procedures are completed safely and within established guidelines, and ensure that all maintenance and repair activities are documented.

Develop, deliver, and document appropriate technical training to technicians and other personnel as determined by Site Leader or other manager, including testing and certification.

Develop and accurately maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all site systems assigned in accordance with contractual requirements, customer and company directives, and proscribed maintenance practices for specific equipment.

Initiate, document, and follow through with field requests, temporary change notices, and suggested improvements to systems, components, and procedures through proper Company channels and using established methods for such requests.

Cooperate and support internal and external audits, provide technical support to improvements and upgrades of the system, act as management representative as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications & Functional Knowledge
Bachelors degree in technical or business field. Associate degree in same combined with related experience acceptable.

Knowledge of the Business
5 years of maintenance related experience with at least one in O&M environment required.

Leadership - Management or Technical
Must be able to fill in as supervisor of technicians on a frequent basis, acting as the management representative on site. Demonstrated prior success in leadership of people a plus.

Problem Solving
Demonstrated ability to identify, address, and resolve problems, both technical and situational as they arise.

Area & Nature of Impact
Local site and occasional division wide; technical, procedural, and safety impact.

Interpersonal & Communication Skills
Demonstrated ability to understand and coordinate complex technical issues that require the use of project management techniques and statistics.

Additional information and elements to consider
Often assigned technical tasks not directly related to system operations and maintenance (e.g. lift trucks and other support vehicles). Often responsible for parts ordering and warehousing activities.
