This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. FTT will require proof of status prior to employment.

Job Summary

A Tool Maker is responsible for designing, modifying, and constructing precision tools used in the production process of various industries. They are responsible for creating jigs, fixtures, molds, and gauges that are used to manufacture products in mechanical or electronic settings, ensuring that they are accurate and efficient.

Key Responsibilities

  • Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or molds,
  • Set up and operate conventional machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, or grinders, to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions,
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, or gauges,
  • Develop and design new tools and dies using computer-aided design (CAD) software,
  • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree or technical certification in machining, tool and die making, or a related field preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in tool making or related field required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in using machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • None

Physical Demands:

  • Physical effort will be required. Will be required to perform lifting of materials and packaging. Heavy lifting, reaching, grasping, holding, bending, seeing, eye hand coordination, sit, stand for long periods of time, climb, and move about.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Required while performing tasks requiring and protection per health and safety requirements.

Work Environment:

  • Work performed in a combination of office, laboratory, and manufacturing facility environments.
  • Test Lab facility working with machinery.
  • Employee will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
