JOB SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision, provides technical support for both the teaching laboratories and the Lab Manager for assigned program. Performs routine laboratory and general technical tasks necessary for daily operation of instructional laboratories. Collects, prepares, cleans, and stores glassware and other lab equipment. Stocks and prepares media, reagents, chemical solutions and stains. Maintains records and files.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares reagents and solutions specific to the science area assigned, using established standards.
  • Sets up laboratory for science lab experiments and exercises; distributes and arranges equipment, models and other related material.
  • Assists in the operation and maintenance of instructional labs.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of exercises and experiments.
  • Implements new or modified policies and procedures.
  • Prepares special instructions for non-routine and complex assignments,
  • Complies with the correct procedures, policies, and health and safety regulations.
  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and completion of at least one college-level science laboratory course,
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory safety protocols,
  • Effective oral and written communication skills,
  • Experience or ability to work with, troubleshoot, and maintain assigned equipment,
  • Ability to be accurate and detailed oriented, use sound judgement, multi-task, be people oriented, and work independently as well as with others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as light work involving lifting no more than 25 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing.
