Medical Assistant - Women's Diagnostic Center

Weekly Hours: 40

Shift: 1st

Status: Full Time

Job Summary:

Assists the biopsy technologists with procedures; schedules patients and maintains medical records. Supports the fulfillment of the departmental mission to meet and exceed customer expectations for patients

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He/she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.

Executes patient care duties to include: Assist technologist with ultrasound biopsies; prepare patient; explain consents and stereotactic and ultrasound biopsy procedures to patient. Obtain orders for all biopsies; call for the orders and scan the orders into the document tab of Magview. Print biopsy schedules for Radiologists and biopsy departments. Prepare biopsy paperwork as needed/scheduled. Obtain pathology reports on the previous days biopsy patients; verify Radiologist has reviewed reports before contacting patients to relay negative results of biopsies. Mail postcards to patients recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Schedule all patients with positive biopsy results with surgeons; log these patients into surgeon log book. Complete film request forms for all patients scheduled for surgery. Scan all biopsy documents into Magview; enter pathology results into the pathology tab of Magview and scan these documents into the document tab of Magview; write on schedule that you have entered pathology, date it and mark a "C" on all cancers. Measurement Criteria: Observation/Demonstration

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:

A. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting, LPN, or RN Program.

B. Must achieve certification from an approved institution (AAMA, AMT or NCCT) within 1 year of employment.

C. Computer skills preferred.

D. Basic Life Support and other advanced training as appropriate.
