Job Title: Mechanical Designer, Senior
Reports To: Supervisor, Mechanical Design
Summary: The Senior Mechanical Designer position has the responsibility of designing automated and manual fixtures for Body-In-White applications (Resistance Welding) and Frame Line applications (MIG Welding). All fixtures will be developed using 3D solid models with constraints. The designer must be able to create all CAD files to the customer standards including 3D models, layouts, details and bill of materials.
Responsibilities:
  1. Design custom fixtures with little direction from leader
  2. Design complex tooling from scratch, including design clamps, stationary pin units, retractable pin units, slides ad dumps and compound units
  3. Read and interpret customer supplied information, including GD&T and weld files
  4. Able to Check 3D and 2D drawing packages
  5. Create Request for Wiring Diagrams (RWD's) and generate supporting documentation
  6. Layout and detail of complex tooling
  7. Identify and point out non-preferred design practices and recommend solutions to others
  8. Create Bill of Materials (BOMs) for Manufacturing
  9. Understand tolerances and proper material uses
  10. Understand MIG weld torch angel requirements for clearance checks
  11. Understand all file attributing required to release tools into ERP system
  12. Understand and utilize all the latest file check and design assist programs
  13. Create component buyoff sheets
  14. Perform engineering calculations to verify design integrity
  15. Willing to assist and mentor team members
  16. Perform all other duties within capabilities, as assigned
Requirements:
  1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  2. 5 years' work related experience
  3. Experience designing Body-In-White weld fixtures (Resistance Welding) or MIG welding fixtures
  4. Working knowledge of the industry safety and ergonomic standards
  5. Able to use Inventor, Unigraphics or Catia to develop 3D Models, layouts and details
  6. Understands mechanical design and plant layout validation
  7. Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills
  8. Strong written and oral communication skills
  9. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Work Environment: This position operates in an office environment.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and be present on the plant floor or customer facility.
Expected Hours of Work: This position will require daily overtime hours and weekend work.
Travel: Some travel is required for attending meetings at multiple sites (Paslin and/or customer) to support installation.
