The role at a glance:

NBBJ Columbus isseekinga talentedUrbanDesign Leader to lend their expertise in expanding our Urban Environments Practice.Urban Design Leaders are client and public-facing experts who are tasked with leading the urban design of all projects in the studio, supporting other studios across the firm, assisting in winning new work as a seller/doer,maintaining and nurturing existing client relationshipsand leading the strategy of the studio and practice.

Urban Design Leaders shape NBBJ's global practice at the regional, national and international levels, advancing our commitment to innovation and design excellence.They bring strong urban design thought leadership, graphic communication and presentation skills, the ability to build strong urban design teams and recruitment and retention strategies that grow the practice. Urban Design Leaders also play a strong leadership role on projects,they work closely with the Urban EnvironmentsPractice Leadership team to follow and nurture leads, help translate leads into project prospects, and contribute strong design thinking and leadership to ensure project wins.

In your new role, you will:

  • Provide strong urban design project leadership, design processes and design outcomes
  • Grow theUrban Environment practice:developandexecutenew and existing client relationshipsthrough a deep understanding ofcliententerprise and needs
  • Work closely withthe Urban Environment Practice Leadership Teamand Marketing Manager to continually identify and generate business opportunitiesthatbroaden theUrban Environmentpractice in a way that is aligned withthe practice's andNBBJ'sfirmwidestrategic vision
  • Assist in the development of marketing content that strengthens theUrban Environmentpractice, value propositions and point of view
  • Provide strategy and design vision for proposals and interviews with prospective clients to increase win rate
  • Build a high-performance team of planning and design professionals who can deliver project excellence
  • Ensure practice profitability in your studio, including the meeting of annual design goals, and revenue targets, while also meeting marketing budgets
  • Advance theUrban Environmentpractice's reputation through conference presentations, journal articles and social media communications

What you will need to succeed:

  • Must be an expert inUrbanDesignwith a deep understanding of NBBJ's work
  • Proven ability to build business and deliver complexUrban Design projects at all scales
  • Skilled at viewing the world through the client's lens
  • A great communicatoranddesign storyteller with an engaging and energetic personality
  • Strong relationships and connections with Urban Environment clients across the United States and globally
  • Results-oriented: ability to independently analyze,synthesize information and take action
  • Must help generate leads early in the sales cycle and work collaboratively with the studio/practice team to develop strategies and relationships that convert them into prospects and wins
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment and capable of bringing together a diverse team of leaders, unifying diverse design and market mindsets, approaches, and capabilities into a cohesive team
  • Bringing rigor, coordination, and increased communication to our urban design process
  • 15+ years of experience in the design profession with a focus in Urban Design
  • Licensure or equivalent professional certification
  • LEED Accreditation, encouraged
