This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. FTT will require proof of status prior to employment.

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Design Engineer Fellow has broad capabilities in utilizing engineering principals and tools in their area of engineering practice. The Design Engineer Fellow is a technical expert in his or her field of practice. Actively participates in the engineering discipline's technical development and mentors and oversees technical content of junior engineers. Designs and analyzes aircraft electrical, mechanical, propulsion, and component structures, systems, and processes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Uses computer-aided design (CAD) to produce initial design and specifications for aircraft components.
  • Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified aircraft system designs.
  • Documents changes through a formal engineering change notification process.
    • May guide or direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication.
    • Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
    • Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
    • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
    • Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
      • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead).

Required Experience:
  • Strong sense of ownership of discipline tasks within a program.
  • Able to complete engineering discipline tasks independently.
  • Broad understanding of industry standards and practices.
  • Mentor, coach and provide technical oversight of junior engineers within the discipline.
  • Collaborates with program managers, customers, and team members to assist in estimating discipline specific program staffing requirements.
  • Provide support in the advancement and utilization of technology within the discipline.
  • Hands on experience in development and application of discipline technologies.
  • Ability to make technical presentations internally and to customers.
  • Identifies and works toward resolution of technical concerns.
  • Helps develop standards and guidelines for discipline tasks being performed.
  • Responsible for lessons learned, design practices, formal reviews, and assuring consistency throughout the discipline.
  • Maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by company and government requirements.
  • Communicate and interact effectively with peers, supervisors, and public, including maintaining respect for others, and following company policies.
  • Have a willingness and ability to learn and utilize company technology for company required purposes, including, for example training, reviewing, and signing policies and procedures, benefits enrollment and changes, and more.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Typically requires a minimum of 15 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or minimum of 10 years and a Master's degree; or a PHD with a minimum of 8 years experience. iWORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Office and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
    • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, mouse, phones, rotating wrist, using tools/equipment).
